ATCO, N.J.- The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series made its way to the quarter mile strip this weekend at Atco Dragway with hundreds of racers competing in head to head competition. Winners were crowned in Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator and the rest of the classes that comprise the nationwide series.

The blazing power of the alcohol classes was on fully display this weekend as Josh Hart, Ocala, Fla., posted a 5.344 second, 269.56 mph run narrowly defeating Dan Page, Hampstead, N.H., 5.401 seconds, 270.16 mph in Top Alcohol Dragster. In the Top Alcohol Funny Car class, DJ Cox Jr., Whiteford, Md., ran 5.782 seconds, 254.18 mph to hold off Matt Gill, W. Bridgewater, Mass., 5.738 seconds, 258.37 mph.

The New Jersey crowd was treated to multiple home state winners. Joe Lisa in Super Stock , and hometown racer Stephen Sisko in Super Street. In an all New Jersey affair, Lisa, Vernon, N.J., ran 10.131, 115.93 to edge out Douglas Linke, Old Bridge, N.J., 10.223, 129.17. In another N.J. tussle, hometown favorite Sisko, Atco, N.J., outlasted William Phillips, Monroe Township, N.J. Sisko ran 10.916, 138.27 to defeat Phillips, 10.918, 140.02.

In Stock Eliminator, Anthony Fetch, Colonia, N.J., ran 13.500, 69.10, sealing an easy victory as Kyle Kohr, Myerstown, Pa., fouled at the starting line. In the Comp Eliminator class, Thomas Miller, Nottingham, Pa., ran 7.675, 154.37 defeating Frank Aragona, Freehold, N.J., 8.158, 163.73.

The other drivers visiting the winner's circle were John Calo, Glen Head, N.Y., in Super Comp; Francis Ross, Milford, N.H., in Super Gas; Ronald Riegel, Fairless Hills, Pa., in MXI/Magnaflux Top Sportsman presented by Select Performance, and Vince Musolino, Bridgeport, N.Y., in MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster by Select Performance.

ATCO, N.J. Winners were crowned in Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car classes today for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The event is the fifth of seven in the NHRA Northeast Division with racers earning points toward national, regional and divisional championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $500,000.  Other classes include Comp Eliminator, MXI/Magnaflux/Select Performance Top Dragster and Top Sportsman that took to the track today and will conclude on Sunday with final eliminations and the winner's circle celebration.

ATCO, N.J. Racing kicked off today for the NHRA Northeast division at Atco Raceway as the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series hosts the fifth of seven events in the division where drivers will earn points leading to national, regional and divisional championships.

The 270 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car classes highlight the event making a pair of qualifying runs today at 4 and 7:30 p.m. followed by a final session on Saturday at noon that will set their fields for Saturday's eliminations.

The division's MXI/Magnaflux/Select Performance Top Dragster and Top Sportsman series, and Comp Eliminator classes also made qualifying runs today and will make a final qualifying pass and elimination runs beginning Saturday at 11.  Super Stock, Super Gas and the rest of the classes in competition ran qualifying and time trials today, which will continue tomorrow followed by early rounds of eliminations, and final eliminations on Sunday. 

Gates open at 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday with final qualifying and time trials set to begin at 9:30 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars will run eliminations rounds at 5, 7 and 9 p.m.

Sunday eliminations kick off at 9:30 a.m. beginning with Super Street.  Top Dragster and Top Sportsman set to begin at 10:30 a.m.  Admission for the event is $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2017 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2017 Jegs Allstars to be held at the 2017 K&N Filters NHRA Route 66 Nationals. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2017 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.
