Sunday

SONOMA, Calif. California native Jimmy DeFrank took home the trophy in Super Stock for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Sonoma Dragway, in Sonoma, Calif. This win was the second for DeFrank who defeated Jody Lang, Puyallup, Wash. DeFrank who had a double breakout, posted a winning run of 8.796 seconds, 156.34 mph over Lang's 10.781 seconds, 119.75 mph runner-up finish. DeFrank started with a 0.002 light and misses his dial by just -0.001 to receive the Super Stock Wally. This is his second Wally of the year receiving the first one at the regional event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March.

Another local California native joining the winners circle this weekend is Val Torres, Valinda, Calif. Torres was better on the line posting a 0.014 reaction time and posting a winning run of 8.914 seconds, 169.06 mph over Matt Constant in his dragster who posted a runner up finish of 8.908 seconds, 163.95 mph. Torres received his first Wally of the year with his win in Super Gas at the Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. in February.

Brian Hyerstay, Springfield, Ore., gets a great 0.004 light to start his run in Comp Eliminator posting a time of 9.044 seconds, 139.70 mph to down Mike DePalma Jr., Glendale, Ariz., and his '00 S-10 at 8.108, 163.43. With Hyerstay's great start to his run, he holds off a quicker DePalma for the hole shot Comp Eliminator win.

Other racers visiting the winner's circle this weekend were Kyle Rizzoli, San Luis Obispo, Calif., in Stock Eliminator; Marko Perivolaris, Petaluma, Calif., in Super Gas; and Allen Macham, Everett, Wash., in Super Street. In the division's Top Sportsman class it was Jeffrey Gillette, Benicia, Calif., taking the win while Mike MacBriar, Napa, Calif., won in Top Dragster. In the Sportsman Motorcycle class presented by Harley-Davidson, Brain Jennings, Martinez, Calif., took the win while Mike Maggio, San Dimas, Calif., takes the win in the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Series.

Pacific Division racers head to Rocky Mountain Raceway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, September 26-28.

SONOMA, Calif. Racers made final qualifying runs today as well as early elimination rounds at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Sonoma Raceway. 

Racers in eleven classes of competition took to the track that included Stock and Super Stock, Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Pro Mod.  Gates open at 7 a.m. on Sunday with racing scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m.  Tickets are $20 for adults and children 12 and under are free with a paid adult, for more information please call Sonoma Raceway (800) 870-RACE or visit www.racesonoma.com

SONOMA, Calif. The NHRA Pacific Division and the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series kicked off today at Sonoma Raceway as nearly 500 racers took to the track for opening day qualifying and time trials.

Highlighting the day's action was Comp Eliminator, and the Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series.  Each of these classes will make final qualifying runs on Saturday that will set the fields for Saturday's Eliminations.

Saturday's racing action gets underway at 8:15 a.m. for final time trials and qualifying in all classes.  Eliminations are scheduled to begin Saturday afternoon for a few classes and continue on Sunday.

SONOMA, Calif. The NHRA Division 7 Drag Race presented by Korbel will take place at Sonoma Raceway on July 18-20. The event is the one of seven events in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Pacific Division and one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. The event will feature drivers in nine categories including Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, as well as the Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, Top Dragster Series and Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson.

Gates open at 7 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Qualifying and time trials start Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. and continue Saturday at 8:15 a.m. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman qualify on Friday, at noon and 4 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Outlaw Pro Mods qualifies on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at noon and 4 p.m. Eliminations begin on Saturday at 2 p.m. and continue on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

Tickets for Sonoma Raceway are $5 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

SATURDAY, July 19 - Gates open at 7 a.m. Qualifying and time trials begin at 8:15 a.m. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator, and Top Sportsman qualify at 10:30 a.m. Outlaw Pro Mod qualifies at noon and 4 p.m. Eliminations begin at 2 p.m.

SUNDAY, July 20 - Gates open at 8 a.m.  Eliminations continue at 8:30 a.m.

BONUS PROGRAMS: NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2014 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions.  Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of  $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance.  The 2015 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster.  The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2015 Jegs Allstars.  Points are based on in-division races only. 

The winning regional and division teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions.  Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece.  Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2014 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.

PACIFIC DIVISION TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, runs in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Pacific division's Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

PACIFIC DIVISION TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: The Pacific Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Pacific division's Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.
