Sunday

CHANDLER, Ariz. In the final results from Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Joey Severance, Woodburn, Ore., and Brian Hough, Junction City, Ore., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Severance, worked his way through the field and ran 5.390 seconds at 230.21 mph in his final round victory over Johnny Ahten, Santa Clarita, Calif., whose time was disallowed due to a technical infraction with his fuel. Severance qualified #3 and had the early lead in the final as he picked up his 14th regional event win.

Hough faced off against Jay Payne, Claremont, Calif., and posted a winning run of 5.553 seconds, 257.83 mph in his '10 Mustang. Payne slowed to a 7.389, 124.68 mph lap for his runner up finish. Hough is now two for two in 2014 as he won the season opener last month at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

Tony Mandella, Riverside, Calif., won in Comp Eliminator when Tyler Hogan, Santa Maria., Calif., fouled at the start and Peter Biondo, Maspeth, N.Y., added to his trophy collection beating Robert Cruzen, Las Vegas, in Super Stock.

John Cooper and Trevor Larson won in Stock and Super Comp respectively as Cooper, LaPorte, Colo., drove his '64 Fairlane by Michael Brand II, Thornton, Colo., and Larson held off Shane Thompson, Las Vegas with an 8.997 at 174.89.

Other racers visiting the winner's circle this weekend were Chris Naffziger, Las Vegas, in Super Gas; and Howard Esping, Kent Wash., in Super Street. In the division's Top Sportsman class it was Jeff Gillette, Benicia, Calif., taking the win while Moe Trujillo, Happy Valley, Ore., won in Top Dragster.

Rick Newport rounded out the winners taking home the trophy in the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson. Newport defeated Bill Burkhart, Anaheim, Calif., in 8.192 seconds at 154.40 mph.

Pacific Division racers head to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, March 21-23.

CHANDLER, Ariz. Fields were set today for all classes at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Pacific Division as more than 400 racers will kick off eliminations on Sunday morning.

Gates open on Sunday at 7 a.m. with racing set to begin at 8.  Round 1 for the Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars is scheduled for noon with racing continuing throughout the day and culminating with the winner's circle celebration.

Friday

CHANDLER, Ariz. NHRA Pacific division racers are back at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park for this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.  The event is the first of six Pacific division events in the 2014 season where competitors will earn points toward national, regional and divisional championships.  Racers made qualifying and time trial runs today with racers in Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car taking center stage with their opening round of qualifying. 

Gates open at 7 a.m. on Saturday with final qualifying and time trials beginning at 8 a.m.  Racers in Comp Eliminator, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will make a qualifying run at 10:30 a.m. followed by two qualifying rounds for the top alcohol classes at noon and 4 p.m.

PHOENIX- Kicking off the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Pacific division Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park will host the NHRA Pacific Division Points Race February 28-March 2.  The event is one of 44 events scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

Gates at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start at 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman qualify Friday at noon and 4 p.m and Saturday at 10:30 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify at 3 p.m. on Friday and at noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday. Eliminations begin on Sunday at 8 a.m. with Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car running round 1 at noon.  

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park are $25 each day and children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

WHAT: NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series NHRA Pacific Division Points Race the first of six events in Pacific Division competition where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division's Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, Top Dragster Series and Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.

WHERE: Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, Chandler, Ariz. Track is located at 20000 S. Maricopa Road. Take I-10 to Maricopa Road exit.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2014 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2014 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2014 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning regional and division teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2013 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.

PACIFIC DIVISION TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, runs in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Pacific division's Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

PACIFIC DIVISION TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: The Pacific Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Pacific division's Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.
