STANTON, Mich. – Bruno Massel and Slate Cummings each scored big wins this weekend at Mid-Michigan Motorplex and the NHRA Lucas Oil Michigan Sportsman Challenge.

Massel grabbed his fourth win of the year to take over the No. 1 spot nationally in Comp Eliminator with Arnie Martel dropping to the No. 2 spot. Massel, Woodbridge, Ill., drove his '10 Cobalt to a 7.087 second pass at 188.44 mph to defeat Chuck Haubiel, Gahanna, Ohio, and take home the trophy.

Cummings' win over Harold Costello in Stock Eliminator was his third of the year moving him into the points lead in the NHRA South Central Division and into second nationally. Costello had the starting line advantage but it was Cummings by about 18 inches at the strip.

Homestate racer Zack Running followed up his Super Street Shootout presented by Moser Engineering win from Saturday with his second win of the weekend in Super Street. Running, Lapeer, Mich., faced off with Rob Garrabrant, Lancaster, Ohio, clocking in at 10.922, 120.04 mph for the win.

Fellow Michigan runner, Mike Sowards of Clarkston, beat points leader John Scali Jr. in the division's Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman Series. Sowards went 175.02 mph in 7.835 seconds after Scali left early with a red-light foul start.

Rick Forish used a 0.007 second reaction time combined with a lap of 6.563 seconds at 201.29 mph to take out Troy Galbraith in the Spritzer Race Cars Top Dragster class while Nick Folk ran right on his 9.70 dial to knock out Dan Olding in Super Stock.

Steve Hoyt, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Dave Klomps rounded out the winners at Mid-Michigan Motorplex taking the trophies in Super Comp and Super Gas respectively. Hoyt and Bill Riddle had identical reaction times with Hoyt running closer to the 8.90 index. Klomps recorded four double-oh reaction times in his final four rounds ending with a .003 in the final against Joey Fuesting which proved to be the difference with Fuesting running closer to the dial but Klomps taking the hole-shot win.
