EARLVILLE, Iowa (September 13, 2009) – The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Tri-State Raceway is in the books and the West Central division racing schedule has been completed. Drivers still have the ability to race out-of-division events in order to pick up last minute points in search of divisional and national championships. Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Jim Whiteley, Grand Junction, Colo., and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Andy Bohl, Racine, Wis., picked up the wins.
Whiteley, the No. 2 qualifier, defeated Chris Demke of Sunland, Calif., in the final to grab the win. He posted a 5.409 second, 263.46 mph lap to seize his third divisional victory of the year. The Pacific division racer is en route to picking up a divisional championship.
Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Andy Bohl grabbed his second divisional win of the season. The North Central division points leader made his way from the No. 2 slot and into the winner's circle by defeating No.1 qualifier Roger Bateman of Calgary, Manit., in the final. His lap of 5.746 seconds at 253.18 mph was enough to defeat the top qualifier and to pick up the hardware.
Other top winners included Comp Eliminator driver Tom Schmidt, Lindstrom, Minn.; Justin Jenkins, Beatrice, Neb., won in Super Stock; and Nick Folk of Durand, Ill., won in Stock. Super Comp honors went to Rick Bowman, Solon, Iowa; Trevor Larson, Starbuck, Minn., won in Super Gas with his '27 roadster; and Ted Ash, Topeka, Kan., powered his '61 Corvette to the victory in Super Street.
Other drivers who received the prestigious Wally trophy included Charley Whittenburg, Spencer, Iowa, in the division's Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series ; Clarence Mayo, Manly, Iowa was victorious in the West Central Division Top Dragster category; and Travis McMann of Marengo, Iowa, grabbed the win light in the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson.

EARLVILLE, Iowa (September 12, 2009) – Qualifying is complete at Tri-State Raceway with pairings set for Sunday's eliminations. This is the last of six events set for the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series West Central division. Top qualifiers included Dan Kracht, Gretna, Neb., in Top Alcohol Dragster and Roger Bateman, Calgary, Manit., in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
The top of the West Central division Top Alcohol Dragster points standings couldn't be any tighter as a mere two points separates three competitors. Kracht currently sits in the No.3 slot, but can dramatically help his situation with a win tomorrow. The division leader, Richard Putz of Earlville, Iowa, is the No.6 qualifier and No. 7 qualifier Edwin Schmeeckle, Gothenburg, Neb., currently holds the second spot in the points.
Bateman was able to hold onto the pole after two days of competitive qualifying with his 5.684 second, 248.98 mph lap. He has been unbeatable at his last three events and is making a solid attempt at defending his Tri-State Raceway victory from 2008.
In other qualifying action, Matthew Harris of Nebraska City, Neb., took the pole in Comp Eliminator; Larry Schmidt, Grand Island, Neb., and his '55 Bel Air led the Super Stock class; and the Stock No.1 qualifier was Bob Shaw from Sedalia, Mo.
The division's Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series No.1 qualifier went to Jerry Holt of Collinsville, Okla.; Dean Dubbin, Royalton, Minn., drove to the head of the West Central Division Top Dragster Series; and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson pole went to Brian Johnson, Nowthen, Minn., with a perfect reaction time off the starting line.
Racing continues Sunday, September 13th with gates opening at 7 a.m. and eliminations beginning at 9 a.m. Eliminations for Top Alcohol begin at noon. General admission pit pass is $20. EARLVILLE, Iowa (September 11, 2009) – The West Central division's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is coming to a close this weekend at Tri-State Raceway for its last of six events of the year. Competitors from eleven categories will be battling it out during the three day event in hopes of claiming valuable divisional and national points. No.1 qualifiers include Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Tim Bowgren of Valparaiso, Ind., and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Roger Bateman from Winnipeg, Man.
Bowgren, racing out of the North Central division, grabbed the No.1 qualifying position over Jim Whiteley of Grand Junction, Colo. Whiteley currently leads the Pacific division points standings and has a high possibility of grabbing the national championship.
Bateman has been victorious in the last three divisional events he has participated in, and also won at Tri-State Raceway last year. He posted a 5.684 second, 248.93 mph pass to grab the top spot and is on track to pick up the divisional title.

EARLVILLE, Iowa – NHRA's West Central division will close out its 2009 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series season September 11-13 at Tri-State Raceway. The race is the last of six on the division's calendar and will feature drivers in eight categories, including 250 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, vying for points leading to divisional and national championships. The division's Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series, West Central Division Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.
Gates at Tri-State Raceway open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials kick off Friday at 10 a.m. and continue Saturday at 8 a.m. Racers in Comp Eliminator, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will have two qualifying runs on Friday, starting at 2 and 4 p.m., and one on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will qualify once on Friday, at 5 p.m., and twice on Saturday, at noon and 4 p.m. Eliminations begin Sunday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at noon.
Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Tri-State Raceway are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. A three-day pass is $50. Children 6 to 12 years old are $5 each day and kids 5 and under are admitted free.

PROGRAMS: NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2009 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions. Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.
AEROMOTIVE LOW QUALIFIER BONUS: A $3,000 bonus fund paid to the low qualifiers in Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and Stock Eliminator at each of the division's six races. The best qualifying driver in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock will each get $200 per event, while the best qualifier in Stock Eliminator will get $100 per race.
JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2010 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2010 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.
The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Winners in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will each earn $5,000. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.
Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2010 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.
