BAYTOWN, Texas (July 26, 2009) – The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series wrapped up this weekend at Houston Raceway Park early Sunday morning. Racers completed the two day event, which was the fourth of six events on the division calendar. The event featured drivers in 11categories vying for crucial points leading to divisional and national championships. Winning the hardware were Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Chase Copeland of Walters, Okla., and Kebin Kinsley out of Kennedale, Texas, in the Top Alcohol Funny Car class.
Copeland took a tough route this weekend making his way out of the No. 6 qualifying position and into the winner's circle. He defeated the current divisional points leader, Malcolm Wahle of Claremore, Okla., in the first round en route to his victory. In the final, Copeland laid down a 5.517 second, 252.05 mph. pass to take out Willis, Texas, resident Michael Manners.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car action, Kinsley is making a name for himself in South Central competition and taking a shot at the points lead. His final pass of 5.867 seconds at 241.97 mph was just enough to knock out the No.1 qualifier Lee Callaway from Baytown, Texas, to pick up the holeshot victory.
Other top honors were awarded to Adam Hickey, Hammond, La., in Comp Eliminator; Gary Emmons of Friendswood, Texas, claimed the Super Stock trophy; and Kevin Helms, Schriever, La., won in Stock Eliminator. Super Comp honors went to Lance Rutland of Spring, Texas; Bart Nelson, La Porte, Texas, won in Super Gas; and Tim Watson, Bedford, Texas, grabbed the Super Street title. TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster honors went to John Angelle, Breaux Bridge, La.; Keith Haney from Broken Arrow, Okla., won the Sunset RaceCraft Top Sportsman class; and the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson title went to Ben Brown of Irving, Texas.
The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central division heads to No Problem Raceway Park on September 18-20.

BAYTOWN, Texas (July 24, 2009) – The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series takes over Houston Raceway Park for two full days of intense drag racing. The race is the fourth of six on the division calendar and will feature drivers in eleven categories vying for divisional and national championships. Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Brandon Lewis of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Lee Callaway, Baytown, Texas, of the Top Alcohol Funny Car class, both received top qualifying honors.
Callaway's home field advantage clearly paid off by posting a 5.776 second, 249.30 mph pass to claim the No.1 spot in the Top Alcohol Funny Car field. He is searching for his first win of the season in the all Texas field. They will get one more qualifying hit late Saturday before they head into eliminations.
Lewis is competing in his fifth divisional of the season and is still looking to grab the coveted NHRA Wally trophy. He threw down a 5.385 second, 268.87 mph lap to reach the No.1 spot and place him ahead of fellow Broken Arrow resident Shayne Lawson and Malcolm Wahle of Claremore, Okla. This event win can definitely shuffle the class standings as these three Sooners sit in the top three spots.
Other top qualifying times were ran by Adam Hickey, Hammond, La., in Comp Eliminator; James Caro of Houma, La., in Super Stock; and David Buckner, New Waverly, Texas, in Stock Eliminator. The division's Sunset RaceCraft Top Sportsman top qualifier was Bert Prejean from St. Amant, La.; Douglas Barnhart, Katy, Texas, lead the TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster class with his 6.167 second, 216.27 mph pass; and scoring a 0.000-second reaction time to lead NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson was Derek Dorsey of Kingswood, Texas.
Gates open at 9 a.m. on Saturday with final qualifying and time trials slated from noon to 4. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will have a final qualifying run at 4 p.m. Eliminations for all classes will follow. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 7:30 p.m.

BAYTOWN, Texas – Houston Raceway Park will host its second NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event for two days, July 24-25, 2009. The race is the fourth of six in NHRA South Central division competition and the second of two slated for Houston Raceway Park. The event, which will showcase 250 mph Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars, will feature racing under the lights. The division's Sunset RaceCraft Top Sportsman Series, TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also be run in conjunction with the event.
Top Alcohol Dragster points leader, Malcolm Wahle of Claremore, Okla., has been to two races this season and has made it to the final round both times. He opened the year with the win at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas, and was runner-up at Houston Raceway Park's first event. Broken Arrow, Okla., racer Shayne Lawson is in second place in the points after starting the year at out-of-division races in Florida. He lost in the first round at Bradenton (Fla.) Motorsports Park but took the win at Gainesville (Fla.) Raceway. In the South Central division season opener in Ennis, he went to the semis.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car action, Steve Burk of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Steve Harker of Gainesville, Ga., are tied for first place. Harker started the year with a win at the Texas Motorplex where Burk lost in the first round. At Houston Raceway Park's first event, the tables were turned and Burk took the win while Harker went out in round one. Kennedale, Texas's Kebin Kinsley is just off the pace, 10 points back. He was runner up to Harker in Ennis and went to the semis here.
There are also a scant 10 points between first place and second in Comp Eliminator. Dennis Smiley, Denver City, Texas, has the lead after a series of second round losses followed by a win at an out-of-division race in Denver. Shane Gray, the son of NHRA Pro Stock racer Johnny Gray, is in second place. The Artesia, N.M., racer opened the year with a win at the Motorplex but hasn't been past the second round since.
Lake Jackson, Texas, racer David Dale is leading the Super Comp points. His best showing so far has been a fourth-round finish at the division's race at Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park.
Gates at Houston Raceway Park open at 9 a.m. both days. Qualifying and time trials start at 3 p.m. Friday. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will have two qualifying runs, at 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Qualifying and time trials will continue Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. with each category getting one run. Eliminations will start after 4 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Houston Raceway Park are $20 Friday and $20 Saturday. Children 6 to 12 years old are $10 each day and kids 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

PURSE: The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors will vie for cash and contingency awards of $173,475, as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $560,000.
2008 EVENT WINNERS: This is the first year Houston Raceway Park has hosted a second NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.
BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2009 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions. Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.
JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2010 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2010 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.
The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Winners in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will each earn $5,000. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.
Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2010 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.
SUNSET RACECRAFT Top Sportsman Series: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,000 and the runner-up will get $500. Top Sportsman racers may run the seven South Central Division Lucas Oil events as well as three Lucas Oil Series races in the other NHRA divisions.
TCI COMP CAMS TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Dragster class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500 and the runner-up will get $800.
NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
