STANTON, Mich. – Mid-Michigan Motorplex will host the NHRA North Central division's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for two days, July 11 and 12. The race is the fourth of six scheduled in the division and will feature drivers in eight categories, including the division's Top Sportsman class and Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster category, vying for points leading to divisional and national championships.
Greg Kamplain of Brownsburg, Ind., leads in the Comp Eliminator points. Kamplain's best performance so far came at the division's event at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, in May where he scored the win. Brian Browell of Lafayette, Ind., is in second place in the point standings on the strength of two semifinal-round finishes – in Norwalk and at the division's last race, at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. Woodhaven, Mich., racer Steve Ambrose opened the year with a win at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis but only got as far as the second round in Norwalk and suffered a first-round loss in Joliet but it is enough to put him in third place in the point standings. Jerry Arnold of Kalamazoo, Mich., is just behind Ambrose after scoring runner-up points in Norwalk. He made it to the second round at the other two races he has attended.
Super Street racer Bill Worby has been to three races this season and has made two final-round appearances. The Dwight, Ill., racer scored the win at the division's season opener in Indianapolis and was runner-up at Route 66 Raceway. However, Anna, Ohio's James Unum II is just seven points off the pace. Unum has more races under his belt and his best efforts have been two third-round showings.
