Sunday

FALLON, Nev. (June 14, 2009) Kevin Wayman and Doug Gordon each took home big wins this weekend at the NHRA Pacific Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Top Gun Raceway part the week long Octane Fest in Fallon, Nev.

Wayman, South Jordan, Utah, took his No. 1 qualifying efforts in straight to the winner's circle in Top Alcohol Dragster knocking out Dennis Swearingen, Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., in the final and fellow Utah, racer Jaren Mott of Salt Lake City in his semifinal match up.  Wayman recorded a lap of 5.540 seconds at 256.84 mph in the final.

Gordon, Paso Robles, Calif., put a stop to Sean O'Bannon's NHRA Pacific Division Top Alcohol Funny Car win streak with a starting line advantage to go along with his 5.967 second, 247.12 mph pass.  O'Bannon, Ontario, Calif., had a quicker run at 5.930 second, 244.55 mph but could not catch Gordon in the quarter mile.

Comp Eliminator turned out to be a fight for Glendale, Ariz., bragging rights as No. 1 qualifier Mike DePalma held off No. 2 qualifier Dean Carter.  Both racers make their home in Glendale.

Gary Forkner finally broke into the winner's circle with a win to go along with his two runner-up finishes this year.  Forkner, Temecula, Calif., got the win over J. Wayne Silvia, Upland Calif., in Top Sportsman with his '06 GTO.

Boulder City, Nev., racer Jon Irving defeated Jim Durham, Stonyford, Calif., in the Stock Eliminator final while Super Stock runner Brian Weber, Mesa, Ariz., captured the win over Tibor Kadar, Peoria, Ariz., in his '86 Camaro

Joining the rest of the winners this weekend were Glenn Kern, Modesto, Calif., in Super Comp over Bill Botelho, Smith, Nev.; Kent Boehner, Greeley, Colo., in his '02 Corvette Super Gas entry; Livermore, Calif., resident David Adams beating Matt Blodgett, Signal Hill, Calif., in Super Street; Terry White of Half Moon Bay, Calif., in the Hughes Performance Top Dragster class; and Jay Matthews, Henderson, Nev., in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson .

This weekend's event marks the 4th event in the Pacific Division as racers head to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, July 31-Aug. 2

FALLON, Nev. (June 13, 2009) In the final rounds of qualifying for this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series it was Kevin Wayman and defending event champion Doug Gordon qualifying on top in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Wayman of South Jordan, Utah, laid down a lap of 5.582 seconds at 255.48 mph to lead the dragster field.  Johnny Ahten, Saugus, Calif., sits in second at 5.640, 240.80 and Chris Demke, Sunland, Calif., is third.          

Gordon of Paso Robles, Calif., drove his '06 Monte Carlo to a 5.905 second lap at 245.70 mph followed by Sean O'Bannon, Ontario, Calif., at 5.953, 246.45.  O'Bannon is undefeated in the NHRA Pacific Division picking up wins in each of the first two events of the year.

A pair of racers from Glendale, Ariz., led the Comp Eliminator field with Mike DePalma on top of former NHRA Lucas Oil National Champion Dean Carter.  DePalma runs a '98 Firebird while Carter pilots a nostalgia front engine dragster in the class.

Steve Wann grabbed the early double qualifying No. 1 in both the Stock and Super Stock classes.  Wann of Modesto, Calif., drives a '73 Dodge Dart in Stock and a '69 Barracuda in Super Stock.  Pete Miclette rode his '97 GSXR past the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson field with a near perfect 0.003 second reaction time.

Jimmy Johnson, Santa Rose, Calif., is No. 1 in the Hughes Performance Top Dragster category with a lap of 7.088 seconds, 187.82 mph with Will Boxold in second out of Orangevale, Calif.  J. Wayne Silvia joins the rest of the leaders taking the pole position in Top Sportsman running 6.994, 200.24 mph.  The Upland, Calif., racer is followed by Ted Carli, Temecula, Calif.

This weekend's event is part of Fallon's Octane Fest which features multiple motorsports events and concerts at various venues in Fallon.

Racing continues Sunday at 8 a.m. with round one of Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car set for noon.

FALLON, Nev. (June 12, 2009) Racing kicked off today at Top Gun Raceway for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, part of this weekend's Octane Fest Motorsports Festival in Fallon, Nev. 

In Top Alcohol Dragster it was Kevin Wayman of South Jordan, Utah, jumping on top with a lap of 5.582 seconds at 255.48 mph. Wayman is followed by fellow Utah racer Jaren Mott of Salt Lake City running 6.012, 237.18 and Dennis Swearingen, Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., in the No. 3 position at 6.037, 232.59 mph.

Competitors in nine other classes of racing took place in today's test and tune prior to a rain shower forcing officials to cancel the remainder of the day's schedule.  All classes will make qualifying runs and time trials on Saturday with eliminations for all classes set for Sunday.

Gates open at 8 a.m. both days with Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny cars making their final qualifying runs on Saturday at noon and 4 p.m.  Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator, and Top Sportsman run at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

FALLON, Nev. Top Gun Raceway will host the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, June 12-14, 2009.  The race is the fourth of seven in the division and will feature drivers in eight categories, including 250 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, vying for points leading to divisional and national championships.  The division's Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, Hughes Performance Top Dragster Series and Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also run in conjunction with the race. The event is also a featured part of Fallon's Octane Fest, a week long series of motorsports events running June 11-14.

The division's reigning Top Alcohol Dragster champion, Jim Whiteley of Grand Junction, Colo., is tied for first place in the point standings with former division champ Chris Demke.  Demke, a resident of Sunland, Calif., won this race a year ago.  Each racer has a runner-up finish and a first round loss to his credit this season.  Whiteley lost in the first round at the season opener at Firebird Int'l Raceway in Chandler, Ariz. where Demke lost in round one and was runner-up at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where Demke went to the final round.

With two wins in two races, Sean O'Bannon of Ontario, Calif., is leading the division's Top Alcohol Funny Car points.  O'Bannon has a 63-point lead over last year's event winner and former division titlist Doug Gordon of Paso Robles, Calif.  The two racers squared off in the final round in Las Vegas and O'Bannon went on to win in Chandler while Gordon went to the semis.

Tibor Kadar and Steve Wann are battling for the points lead in not one, but two, categories.  Kadar, a resident of Peoria, Ariz., leads the Super Stock points by 33 points over Modesto, Calif., racer Wann.  But Wann has a slim one-point lead in Stock Eliminator.  Both racers have scored a win in Super Stock: Kadar's came at Southwestern Int'l Raceway in Tucson, Ariz., and Wann won an out-of-division race in Boise, Idaho.  But Kadar reached the semifinals in Chandler where Wann lost in the first round.  In Stock Eliminator, Wann scored the win in Tucson and Kadar was runner-up in Boise.

Friday, the track will host a test and tune event from noon to 6 p.m.  Competitors in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will have one qualifying pass, at 6 p.m.

Gates at Top Gun Raceway open at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Qualifying and time trials start at 8 a.m. Saturday.  Racers in Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman will qualify at 11 a.m., 2 and 5 p.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car racers will have qualifying runs at noon and 4 p.m.  Eliminations begin Sunday morning at 8.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at noon.

BONUS PROGRAMS:  
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which    will be shared by 2009 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions.     Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions;    $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock,    Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $100,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance.  The 2010 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes.  The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2010 Jegs Allstars.  Points are based on in-division races only. 

The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions.  Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece.  Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $20,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants.  Any 2010 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.

PACIFIC DIVISION TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Pacific division's Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

HUGHES PERFORMANCE TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: The Hughes Performance Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Pacific division's Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $3,500 champions' purse posted by Hughes Performance will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

FEATURES: More than 500 drivers in the eight racing categories.  Eight-car fields in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, featuring five-second, 260 mph side-by-side racing.
