NORWALK, Ohio (May 17, 2009) – Top Alcohol Funny Car ace Frank Manzo scored his 100th divisional event win this weekend at the 3rd Annual B'laster Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Summit Motorsports Park.  The Morganville, N.J., racer also has 79 NHRA national event wins on his resume.  Ken Perry of Richmond Hill, Va., joined Manzo in the winner's circle after wheeling his Top Alcohol Dragster to the win.  The NHRA North Central division race featured more than 500 cars racing in 11 categories.

Due to an abbreviated qualifying schedule because of rain, Manzo only had one shot at qualifying and was racing today from the No. 4 slot.  In the semis he beat No. 1 qualifier Andy Bohl of Racine, Wis.  Manzo ran 5.521 seconds at 262.79 mph to Bohl's 5.599-second, 258.12 mph lap.  In the final, Manzo had a single because his opponent, Terry Monroe, Beaver, Pa., had damaged his motor in his semifinal round win and was unable to make the call to the final.

Perry had qualified in the No. 3 position and in the final he took on the class's top qualifier, Mike Kosky of Cuddy, Pa.  Perry blasted a 5.312-second, 260.36 mph pass to Kosky's 5.461-second, 226.01 mph effort to take the win.

NORWALK, Ohio (May 16, 2009) – After nearly five hours under a rain delay, qualifying is complete at the 3rd Annual B'laster Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Summit Motorsports Park.  Mike Kosky, Cuddy, Pa., remained atop the Top Alcohol Dragster field while Racine, Wis., resident Andy Bohl continued to set the pace in Top Alcohol Funny Car.  Eliminations will start Sunday at 8 a.m.

In the opening round of qualifying on Friday, Kosky laid down a 5.342-second, 266.53 mph blast to take the No. 1 spot. He did not improve on that number today but it was enough to keep him ahead of No. 2 qualifier Bill Reichert of Owosso, Mich.  Reichert also failed to improve on Friday's pass of 5.371 seconds at 268.49 mph.  There were 15 Top Alcohol Dragsters vying for a spot in the eight-car eliminations field.

Bohl did take advantage of today's single qualifying shot, improving his numbers with a pass of 5.623 seconds at 257.19 mph.  Mick Snyder, Demotte, Ill., also made a better lap today and his 5.638-second, 254.86 mph effort was enough to move him from the No. 4 spot to No. 2.  Fourteen Funny Cars were on hand trying to make the eliminations cut.

John Coughlin, Delaware, Ohio, drove his Super Stocker to the No. 1 spot in his class while another Delaware, Ohio, racer, Chuck Beach, put his '68 Barracuda in the No. 1 spot in Stock Eliminator.  Chris Ray of Louisville, Ky., is No. 1 in Top Sportsman and Tom Elliott, Brooks, Ky., heads up the Top Dragster class.  Edwin Wribel, Hope, Mich., rode his '07 Skidoo to the top of the Pro Stock Snowmobile class.  Qualifying was not completed in Comp Eliminator and racers will have one last opportunity to make the field before heading into eliminations Sunday.

The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series continues Sunday at Summit Motorsports Park.  Eliminations have been moved up by an hour and will start at 8 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 1 p.m.

NORWALK, Ohio – Summit Motorsports Park will host the 3rd Annual B'laster Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, May 15-17, 2009. The race is the second of six scheduled in NHRA North Central division competition and will feature drivers in eight categories vying for points leading to divisional and national championships.  The division's Dart Top Sportsman Series and Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event.  The weekend action will also include exhibition races in Pro Stock Snowmobile and Saturday will feature a Jet Car and Wheel Stander show as well as an autograph session with NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series drivers.

The season kicked off in April at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis where Bill Reichert, who earned his third straight national championship in Top Alcohol Dragster last year, picked up where he left off in 2008, taking home the win.  The Owosso, Mich., racer qualified in the No. 2 spot in Indy but was able to break away for the win to give him the lead in the division point standings.  Marty Thacker, the reigning division champ from Robison, Ill., won at Summit Motorsports Park a year ago, on his way to the title.  He suffered a first round loss in Indy and is tied for third place.

Last year, Reichert and Thacker battled all year for both the national and divisional titles.  Reichert finished the year with five wins on the divisional level while Thacker had four wins and two runner-up finishes.  The difference for the division championship came down to Thacker's two semifinal-round finishes over two first-round losses for Reichert.

Former division Top Alcohol Funny Car champion Mick Snyder is currently leading in the point standings.  The NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League graduate from Demotte, Ind., was runner-up in Indianapolis but had gotten a jump in the points by attending an out-of-division race in Cecil, Ga.  In Indy, he was beaten by Bobby Martin of Beaver Falls, Pa., who won here last year.  Martin is in second place in the point standings.

Van Buren, Ohio's Jerry Silveus is leading in the division's Super Stock points after attending two early season out-of-division races and going to the third round in Indy.  In Stock Eliminator, Jim Nichols of Centerburg, Ohio, is in the lead.  He was ousted in the opening round of eliminations in Indy but had also been to two out-of-division races, in Bradenton, Fla., and in Gainesville, Fla., where he fared better.

Gates at Summit Motorsports Park open at 8 a.m. each day.  Qualifying and time trials start at 10 a.m. Friday and continue at 9 a.m. Saturday.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car competitors will qualify once on Friday, at 5 p.m., and twice on Saturday, at 3:30 and 8:30 p.m.  Pro Stock Snowmobile racers will qualify Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 4 and 9 p.m.  Eliminations start Sunday morning at 9.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 1 p.m.

Tickets for the 3rd Annual B'laster Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser are $20 each day or you can get a Weekend Super Saver Pass – good for all three days – for $40.  Children 12 and under are admitted free.
