ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando Speed World Dragway will host the NHRA Southeast Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, March 6-8.  The event is the third of six in the region and will feature drivers in six categories, including Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and Stock Eliminator, vying for points leading to divisional and national championships.  The division's Davis Golf Carts Top Sportsman Series and Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster Series will also be run in conjunction with the event.

Is Orlando Speed World Dragway the place where champions are made? Competitors in the NHRA Southeast division Lucas Oil Series hope it is.  In 2008, four of the event's finalists went on to claim division championships: Arnie Martel, winner in Comp Eliminator; Brenda Grubbs, runner-up in Stock Eliminator; Steve Cohen, winner in Super Comp; and Mike De Sio, winner in Super Street were among those crowned division titlists in 2008.

For some, like Plant City, Fla., resident Grubbs and De Sio, of Seminole, Fla., it was the first championship. For others, like Brooksville, Fla., racer Cohen, it was another crown in a distinguished career.  In fact, Cohen has earned 11 division titles and on national championship.

Martel, a resident of Tewksbury, Mass., advanced to two more final rounds in 2008, picking up runner-up points at out-of-division races in Cordova, Ill., and Las Vegas.  Grubbs scored wins at Atlanta Dragway, Commerce, Ga., and an out-of-division race in Bowling Green, Ky., and Cohen was runner-up at the Northeast division's race in Atco, N.J.  De Sio picked up another win at Atlanta Dragway and was runner-up at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil, Ga.

Martel started the 2009 season in good form. At the division's season opener in Bradenton, Fla., he won in Comp Eliminator and was runner-up in Super Stock.

Gates at Speed World Dragway open at 9 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Qualifying and time trials start Friday morning at 10 and continue Saturday at 9 a.m.  Racers in Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman will have one qualifying run on Friday, beginning at 4 p.m., and two on Saturday, starting at 2 and 5 p.m.  Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m.  Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman competitors will run first round starting at 10:30 a.m.
