Final Eliminations:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Reichert, Veney get wins

HEBRON, Ohio – Although the first two days of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at National Trail Raceway were shortened by rain, Sunday's action was not affected by weather.  However, because there was still qualifying to be made up in the morning, eliminations went on until late into the night.  When it was over, division points leader Bill Reichert was in the winner's circle with his fifth division win of the year after being the No. 1 qualifier in the class.  In the Top Alcohol Funny Car ranks, Todd Veney scored his first trophy of the season.

The win at National Trail Raceway put Reichert, an Owosso, Mich., resident, in a stronger position to earn his first career national title.  Reichert saved his best run of the weekend, 5.289 seconds at 270.64 mph, for the final round against Todd Datweiler of Herscher, Ill.  Datweiler ran 6.999 seconds at 140.20 mph.

Indianapolis resident Veney made his best showing of the season at National Trail Raceway, having failed to make the eight-car field once and suffering a first-round loss in his second outing.  Veney's final-round opponent, former division champion Danny Townsend of Muncie, Ind., was taken to a local hospital after his car went out of control and hit both retaining walls.

In Comp Eliminator, Chad Voges, Lafayette, Ind., scored his first win in the division after beating Robert Bailey, Wabash, Ind., in the final.  This was Voges' second final-round appearance in as many races in the division.  Super Stock competitor Nick Morris, Bardstown, Ky., wheeled is '98 Mustang to the winner's circle over David Turner of Fresno, Ohio, while in Stock Eliminator Peter Biondo, Maspeth, N.Y., drove his '69 Camaro to the win over Buddy Hughes, Louisville, Ky., and his '66 Chevy II.  Super Comp racer Rock Haas, White Lake, Mich., earned the win over Clinton, Ohio's Ron Erks.  Ryan Bolin of Wilminton, Ill., took home the Super Gas trophy after beating Dale Barnard, Meadville, Pa., in the final round and in the Super Street final, local favorite Tony Hall got the win in his '85 S-10, beating Tom Zahn Jr., Louisville, Ky., and his '78 Malibu in the final.  The Top Sportsman winner, Michael Radtke of Tinley Park, Ill., drover his '92 Camaro around Don Peden of Edinburg, Ill., and his '05 Cobalt.

This was the last NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event on the North Central Division calendar but racers may compete at out-of-division events and continue to earn points toward a championship.

Event preview:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

National Trail ready for Sportsman onslaught

HEBRON, Ohio – NHRA North Central division racers will close out the 2006 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series season at National Trail Raceway, September 22-24.  The race is the last of six on the division schedule and will feature drivers in eight categories, including 250 mph Top Alcohol Dragsters (TAD) and Top Alcohol Funny Cars (TAFC), vying for points leading to divisional and national championships.  The division's Top Sportsman series will run in conjunction with the event as well.

With four straight wins in Top Alcohol Dragster, Bill Reichert is leading the class's point standings by nearly 200 points over second place Ken Perry.  Reichert, a former division champ from Owosso, Mich., is looking for his fifth division crown and is very much in the hunt for the Top Alcohol Dragster national championship.  He took the win at the division opener at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, and then won an out-of-division race in Topeka, Kan., before winning two straight North Central division races, at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., and at St. Louis' Gateway Int'l Raceway.  Reichert sat out the division's last event, at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky., giving his competitors a chance to add to their points totals.  Perry, of Gormley, Ont., took advantage of that opportunity and earned his first win of the season and overtake second place from reigning division champion Marty Thacker of Robinson, Ill.  Thacker lost to Perry in the semis at Beech Bend Raceway.

After posting two consecutive wins in Top Alcohol Funny Car, defending division champion Mick Snyder suffered a first-round loss in Bowling Green, but held on to his lead in the point standings.  The Demotte, Ind., racer got an early jump on the points by opening the season at an out-of-division event in Cecil, Ga., where he took the win.  At his home-division season opener at O'Reilly Raceway Park, he was runner-up to veteran racer Chuck Cheeseman of Galena, Ohio.  Snyder then won at Route 66 Raceway and at Gateway Int'l Raceway.  The second-place competitor, Danny Townsend of Muncie, Ind., gained a little ground on Snyder in Bowling Green.  After a series of semifinal round appearances, Townsend was runner-up at Beech Bend Raceway, moving him within 73 points of Snyder.

In some closer championship battles, defending division Super Street champion Justin Rosenbohm, a 24-year-old racer from LeClaire, Iowa, is just two points off the pace of Gary Summers, Franklin, Ky.  Summers has two runner-up finishes this season and Rosenbohm has one win.  In Super Stock there are five points between first and second place.  Jeff Gilman, Marne, Mich., is leading with a win in St. Louis, and John Auer, Scott City, Mo., is just behind him after taking the win in Bowling Green.

Gates at National Trail Raceway open at 9 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Qualifying and time trials are slated to start Friday morning at 10 and continue Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Competitors in Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street will run one round of elimination on Saturday, starting at 2 p.m.  They will continue eliminations on Sunday at 9 a.m.  Racers in Comp Eliminator, Top Sportsman, TAD and TAFC will have one qualifying pass on Friday, at 4 p.m. for Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman, and at 5 p.m. for the Alcohol classes.  On Saturday, they will have two qualifying opportunities.  Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman will run at noon and 4 p.m. and TAD and TAFC will run at 1 and 5 p.m.  Eliminations will start on Sunday, with the Alcohol categories running at 1 p.m.
