Sunday

WEST LEBANON. N.Y. - In the final results from Lebanon Valley Dragway, Jackie Fricke, Flemington, N.J., and Todd Veney, Indianapolis, took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

With rain canceling Friday's qualifying rounds, fields were set off a pair of qualifying rounds on Saturday's with eliminations rounds taking place on Sunday.

Fricke, who has been racing in the Alcohol Dragster class since 2009, worked her way through the field and ran 5.547 seconds at 266.82 mph in her final round victory over Jeff Veale, Stoney Creek, Ont., who clocked in at 5.752 seconds at 249.29 mph. This final round was a rematch from when Fricke and Veale faced each other in the final round at the Power in the Park Lucas Oil event at Virginia Motorsports Park. Veale, who had taken the win in Virginia was looking to for his 2nd Northeast Divisional win but it was not to be. Veale was side by side with Fricke about mid track, but then his car got loose and he lost some time getting his dragster straightened out. Fricke had a good clean pass down the quarter mile to pull away from Veale for her first ever Top Alcohol Dragster win.

Veney faced off against Dan Pomponio in the funny car final with Pomponio taking the early lead but got out of the groove and drifted toward the wall and crossed the boundary line disqualifying him and giving the win to Veney who crossed the finish line in 6.331 seconds at just over 200 mph for the win.  Veney had low elapsed time in each round of eliminations taking out Matt Gill and Mickey Ferro in rounds one and two, posting times of 5.586 and 5.699 respectively.

Scotty Richardson advanced to the final round in both Comp Eliminator and in Super Comp but fell short in both as Joe Carnasciale won in Comp and Brian Bell Jr. in Super Comp.  The Comp final was close at the start but Carnasciale, Cranston, R.I., was able to hold off the quicker Richardson with a lap of 8.908 seconds in his '05 Cavalier  while Bell, Lowell, Mass., used a holeshot to edge out Richardson, Barbourville, Ky., by about 6 inches.

A pair of former NHRA Lucas Oil National Champions added wins to their resumes as Lincoln Morehead and Joe Santangelo grabbed wins in Super Stock and Stock respectively.  Morehead, Marlboro, N.Y., was better at both ends to take out James Antonette, Wantagh, N.Y., and Santangelo, Marlborough, Conn., got a big lead at the start and held on to win easily over Francois Periard, Vaudrevil, Quebec.

Other winners this weekend were Tom Stalba, Williamstown, N.J., over Jason Kenny in Super Gas; William Krug Jr., Albany, N.Y., upended Michael Sawyer in Super Street; Daniel Meyer, Raymond, Maine, beat Frank Berard Jr. in Pro Stock Snowmobile; and Daniel Hill and Vince Musolino won in the MXI/Magnaflux Top Sportsman and Top Dragster presented by Select Performance respectively.  Hill, Thomaston, Conn., held off Jeff Speck and Musolino won against Scott Luken.

Most of the NHRA Northeast Division racers will head to New England Dragway to meet up with the racers in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series this weekend for the Auto-Plus NHRA New England Nationals.
