Monday

ATCO, N.J. (October 5, 2009) – After an extended weekend of competition at Atco Raceway, the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event is in the books. Northeast division racers completed the season long seven event series early Monday, in hopes of obtaining divisional and national championships.  New Jersey residents came out swinging, claiming four of the eight categories including Anthony Fetch of Belleville in Stock; Thomas Slater of Colonia, in Super Comp; Tom Stalba from Williamstown, in Super Gas; and Stephen Sisko Jr of Iselin, in Super Street.

With his second victory of the season, Anthony Fetch extended his division lead in the Stock Eliminator category. Slater defeated Atco local Jack Donnelly in Super Comp for his second win and is making a last minute surge at the division championship. In Super Stock, Tim Worner of Duncannon, Pa., drove his '88 Cutlass into the winner's circle.

The Comp Eliminator win light went to Sal Biondo of Maspeth, N.Y., logging his second divisional victory of the year.  This is a major win for Biondo, who still has an outside shot of the championship. In the division's Top Sportsman category, Smithfield, R.I., resident Wayne Horton grabbed the win in his '00 Chevy S-10.  Jerry Thomas out of Alburtis, Pa., picked up the Top Dragster Wally trophy with a 7.143 second, 187.65 mph pass.

Northeast competitors still have the ability to obtain points leading to divisional and national championships at three remaining events which are scattered in other divisions across the country.

Sunday

ATCO, N.J. (October 4, 2009) – Atco Raceway's June NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event was forced to complete this weekend due to unfavorable weather conditions.  With two events on the divisional calendar, the track was able to give the fans a jam packed weekend with double the excitement. The Top Alcohol classes are now in the books which completes the first event.  New Jersey residents Richard Bourke of Old Tappan and Frank Manzo of Morganville, went rounds and picked up the wins.

Bourke was able to seize his first Top Alcohol Dragster win after a slow start to the season.  The No.3 qualifier laid down a 5.335 second, 266.69 mph pass which defeated the top qualifier John Finke of Selkirk, N.Y.  Finke has a sizable lead in division points and is likely to earn another Northeast championship.

The Top Alcohol Funny Car category was once again overpowered by Lucas Oil sponsored Manzo.  This marks his six divisional victory of the year and puts an exclamation point on his perfect season by receiving the most points possible on his score card. Manzo made his way out of the top qualifying position and posted a 5.558 second, 262.44 mph pass in the final.

Saturday

ATCO, N.J. (October 3, 2009) – Day two is in the books at the season's final Northeast divisional race hosted at Atco Raceway. The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event is presented by P.C. Richard & Son and Franklin Trailers, where drivers are battling it out for last minute points leading to divisional and national championships. Due to rain, the first event at Atco in June was postponed until this weekend with a majority of the winners being crowned Saturday. Top Alcohol classes from June's event will be contested tomorrow among the scheduled category eliminations.

Grabbing the Comp Eliminator title was current divisional points leader Frank Aragona Jr. of Freehold, N.J.  This marks his second win of the season and extends the lead over Vinny Barone in the No.2 spot.  Dan Fletcher out of Churchville, N.Y., last years National Champion in Comp, was able to drive his '69 Camaro into the Stock Eliminator winner's circle. The Pacific division competitor is awarded his first Stock divisional Wally of the year. 

The Super Stock title went to Anthony Bertozzi of Ashland, Va., who is making a last minute push to grab the Southeast division championship with his third win of the year.  Cream Ridge, N.J., resident John Martin won in Super Comp; Ray Sawyer of Acton, Mass., was victorious in Super Gas; and the win light went to Bernie Staub, Dover, Pa., in Super Street.

Top qualifiers for the current event going into Sunday's eliminations include Frank Aragona Jr., Freehold, N.J., in Comp; Jeff Lawrence of Qougue, N.Y., in Super Stock; and David Barton, Robesonia, Pa., in Stock.  The No.1 qualifier in Top Sportsman went to Dennis Gaboriault out of Millbury, Mass., and Frank Zeffiro, Winchester Center, Conn., blasted a 6.287 second, 228.19 mph pass to take the pole in Top Dragster.

Richard & Son and Franklin Trailers, where drivers are battling it out for last minute points leading to divisional and national championships. The first event at Atco, which was to be held in June, was rained out and will be completed in conjunction with this weekend's event.  Pairings are set for the rainout event and qualifying sessions are in progress for the second race.

In a very tight race for the divisional championship in the Comp Eliminator field, Allen Stanfield of Fredericksburg, Va., claimed the pole after one qualifying pass.  Stanfield is searching for his first divisional win of the season, with current points leader Frank Aragona Jr., Freehold, N.J., ready to strike for the No.3 spot.

Dennis Gaboriault out of Millbury, Mass., claimed the Top Sportsman lead position in his '07 Mustang by posting a 6.718 second, 205.91 mph pass.  In the Top Dragster class, Michael Galofaro, Lincoln Park, N.J., registered a 6.458 seconds, 211.99 mph lap.

Racing continues Saturday morning with gates opening at 7 a.m.  Final qualifying and time trials begin at 9 a.m. After one round of qualifying and time trials, all classes will run first round of eliminations.

ATCO, N.J. -- Atco Raceway will host the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series presented by P.C. Richard & Son and Franklin Trailers, Oct. 2-4.  The race is the last of seven on the NHRA Northeast division calendar and the second of two scheduled at Atco Raceway. The first event, in June, was rained out and will be completed in conjunction with this weekend's event.  The action will also include competition in the division's Top Sportsman and Top Dragster classes.

Gates at Atco Raceway open at 7 a.m. daily.  Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 9 a.m.  Comp Eliminator, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman qualifying begins at 11 a.m.  After the initial round of qualifying and time trials, eliminations for the rained-out event will start.

On Saturday, racing gets under way at 9:30 a.m.  Comp Eliminator, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will each have one qualifying pass, starting at 11 a.m.  Racers in all categories will run first round of eliminations following qualifying and time trials.  Drivers in Comp Eliminator, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will run first round starting at 3 p.m.

Eliminations will continue Sunday morning at 9:30.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car competitors from the June race will be on hand Sunday to run eliminations.  The eight-car fields are set but they will have one time run at 10:30 a.m. and start first round at 3 p.m.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Atco Raceway are $20 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday.  A three-day ticket is $55.  Children 6 to 11 years old are $1 each day and kids 5 and under are admitted free.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2009 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions.  Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance.  The 2010 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster.  The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2010 Jegs Allstars.  Points are based on in-division races only. 

The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions.  Winners in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will each earn $5,000.  Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece.  Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants.  Any 2010 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.
