Monday

Champions were recognized yesterday for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Northwest Division Drag Race at Woodburn Dragstrip. Fans in attendance were treated to Top Alcohol Dragster, Funny Car, Comp, Super Stock, Super Gas, and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series.

The track audience witnessed home state racer Garrett Bateman, Albany, Ore., score the victory in the Top Alcohol Dragster final round. Bateman recorded a winning pass of 5.252 seconds, 272.39 mph to outpace Megan McKernan, Sierra Madre, Calif., who posted a runner-up pass of 5.526 seconds, 267.53 mph. Garrett Bateman was the winner here last year and at the recent Seattle race. He has six prior wins and four runner-ups. Megan McKernan has one prior win and three runner-ups.

In his fortieth divisional final round appearance in Top Alcohol Funny Car, Doug Gordon, Paso Robles, Calif., pulled out the victory chasing down Shane Westerfield, Anaheim, Calif., who got off to a good start. Gordon made a winning pass of 5.550, 262.69 defeating Westerfield, 5.600, 265.01. This was Gordon's twenty-second win.

Super Gas finals produced another home state winner. Ross Childers, Gladstone, Ore., made a winning pass of 9.918, 159.37 to outrun Chris Cannon, Bothell, Wash., 9.917, 152.93.

The other drivers visiting the winner's circle were Jeff Lane in Comp Eliminator; Jimmy DeFrank in Super Stock; J Todd Gale in Stock Eliminator; Tom Clark in Super Comp; and Dustin Martin in Super Street; Dan Lafferty in JBS Top Sportsman; and Ryan Carlson in Rig Rentals Top Dragster.

The Sportsman Motorcycle Presented By Harley-Davidson yielded another local winner. Home state racer, Ted Brown, Beaverton, Ore., scored an easy victory, running 9.691, 136.69; as Dan Patridge, Kennewick, Wash., fouled at the starting line.

Other specialty event winners; Jerry Durant Jr in Sportsman; Mark Pracht in Super Pro; Allen MacHam in Pro; Trevor Harkema in Super Comp Shootout; Ron MacKenzie in Super Gas Shootout; Steve Beggerly in Super Street Shootout; and Ryan Warter in Stock Challenge Race.

Saturday

WOODBURN, Ore. – Racers in the Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car classes made final qualifying runs today that set their fields for Sunday's eliminations for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Woodburn Dragstrip.  The top eight racers in each Alcohol class will go into round one on Sunday at noon.

The event is the final of six in the NHRA North West Division with racers earning points toward national, regional and divisional championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $500,000.  Other classes competing include; Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division's JBS Top Sportsman Series, Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates open on Sunday at 8 a.m.  Eliminations begin at 9:00 a.m.  Tickets for the event are $25 for adults, children 6-12 are $5 per day and kids 5 and under are free with a paid adult.  For more information call (503) 982-4461, or visit www.WoodburnDragstrip.com.

WOODBURN, Ore. – NHRA Northwest division racers converged on Woodburn Dragstrip for the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.  The event is the final of six events where competitors will earn points toward national, regional and divisional championships.

Racers in 10 different classes along with the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson made qualifying and time trial runs today with eliminations in all classes scheduled for Sunday at 9 a.m. The Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars made a pair of test runs as well as other classes competing that include; Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division's JBS Top Sportsman Series and Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.

Gates at Woodburn Dragstrip opens at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials are Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car have test sessions Friday at noon and 4 p.m. Qualifying for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car start Saturday at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car run round 1 at noon.

Tickets for Woodburn Dragstrip are $15 Friday, $25 Saturday and $25 Sunday. Children 6 to 14 are $5 each day. Children 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

SUNDAY, Sept. 18 - Gates open at 8 a.m. Eliminations start at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car run round 1 at noon.

BONUS  PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2017 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2017 Jegs Allstars to be held at the 2017 K&N Filters NHRA Route 66 Nationals. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2017 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.

JBS TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Northwest Division RH Racecars Top Sportsman Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

RIG RENTALS TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: The Northwest Division Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Northwest division's Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.
