Sunday

BELLE ROSE, La. – In the final results at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central Division, Nitro on the Bayou at No Problem Raceway Gord Gingles, Winnipeg, Man., and Steve Harker, Gainesville, Ga., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively. 

Gingles, was the number one qualifier who worked his way through the field and earned his fifth divisional win.  He ran 5.319 seconds at 269.29 mph in his final round victory over Megan Meyer, Spring Hill, Kan., who had a runner up lap of 5.358 seconds at 270.97 mph.

Harker, faced off against Ro Yale, Bellaire, Texas, and posted a winning run of 5.711 seconds, 248.89 mph in his 2015 Camaro. Yale had a slight advantage at the light and drove to a 5.786 second, 231.52 mph lap for his runner up finish.

Keith Hall, Ravenna, Texas, was slower at the line but  took the win in Comp Eliminator posting a time of 8.455, 154.28 mph in his '05 Cavalier to down Raymond Martin, Mt. Belvieu, Texas, who was perfect at the light and posted a runner up lap of 7.713 seconds at 169.74 mph.

Several first time winners made a presence at the Nitro on the Bayou as Aaron Stanfield, Bossier City, La., was a first time winner beating Gary Emmons, Friendswood, Texas, with a posted time of 9.670 seconds at 132.82 mph in Super Stock while Norman Griffin, Des Allemands, La., drove his '69 Nova to his first win taking out Billy Johnson, New Iberia, La., in Super Street. Steve Collier, Benton, La., took home his first win in Super Comp defeating Austin Williams, Burleson, Texas, and Robert Irby III, won his first divisional trophy in the Sunset Performance Top Sportsman series beating Joseph Mohana, Bourg, La.

In other racing news Michelle Le Bleu, Lake Charles, La., won her second Lucas Oil divisional trophy in the KPE Top Dragster class; Britt Cummings won his second divisional race in Stock Eliminator; and Jeff Lopez took home his 11th career Lucas Oil divisional win in Super Gas.

Derek Dorey, who won last year in the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson at this event, defended his title and held off Dean LeBlanc, New Iberia, La., to take the win and the trophy back home to Kingwood, Texas.

South Central Division racers head to Texas Motorplex for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, April 22-24.

BELLE ROSE, La. – Racers made final qualifying runs today as the fields were set for the 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Nitro on the Bayou at No Problem Raceway. 

Nearly 400 racers make up the classes of competition that include 270 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car and sportsman categories as well. Gates open at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday with racing scheduled to start at 9 a.m.  Tickets are $20 for adults; Children 10 and under are free with a paid adult. BELLE ROSE, La. – The 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Nitro on the Bayou kicked off today at No Problem Raceway with plenty of excitement and hopes of a NHRA Lucas Oil Championship for everyone in competition.

The 270 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car classes highlight the event making their initial qualifying run today, followed by a final qualifying pass on Saturday along with round 1 of eliminations on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.  Comp Eliminator, the Sunset Performance Top Sportsman and KPE Top Dragster classes also made qualifying passes followed by two additional qualifying runs scheduled Saturday afternoon that will set their fields for Sunday's eliminations. Qualifying for the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also continue on Saturday.

Saturday's racing action resumes at 9 a.m. for final time trials and qualifying in all classes.  First round of eliminations for Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.  Remaining eliminations are scheduled to begin on Sunday at 9 a.m. with TAD and TAFC round 2 scheduled for noon.

BELLE ROSE, La. - NHRA South Central Division returns to No Problem Raceway for the Nitro on the Bayou on April 8-10. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division's Sunset Performance Top Sportsman Series, KPE Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also be run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at No Problem Raceway will open at 7 a.m. on each day. Qualifying and time trials starts at 9 a.m. Friday and continues Saturday at 9 a.m. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at noon and 4:30 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. Eliminations start Saturday afternoon and continue Sunday. Round 1 of eliminations for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday with rounds two and three set for Sunday.

SUNDAY, April 10 - Gates open at 7 a.m. Eliminations continue. Eliminations round 2 for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car are at noon.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2016 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2016 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2016 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

SUNSET PERFORMANCE TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500. Top Sportsman racers may run the six South Central Division Lucas Oil events as well as three Lucas Oil Series races in the other NHRA divisions.

KPE TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Dragster class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500.

MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT: Drivers who compete in seven NHRA sportsman classes will be eligible to participate in the Moser Sportsman Shootout. Moser Engineering Sportsman Shootout qualifying points will be earned by competitors in Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman at each South Central Division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. The 2016 South Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout will carry over to the 2017 season at Texas Motorplex in Dallas, with a posted purse of $15,000, with the winner taking home up to $5,000.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
