Thursday, Nov. 3, event completion

Las Vegas, Nev. Champions were recognized yesterday for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division Race number one at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Top Alcohol Dragster, Funny Car, Comp, Super Stock, Super Gas, Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson, and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series were all in action for the rain delayed event from earlier this year.  Racers in all classes will now begin qualifying and time trials for the second half of the doubleheader weekend.

Two time Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Joey Severance, Woodburn, Ore., solidified his top standing in the TAD class with a resounding victory over Shawn Cowie, Surrey,B.C. Severance registered a winning pass of 5.327 seconds, 269.67 mph, Cowie finished second at 5.493 seconds, 222.51 mph.

In Top Alcohol Funny Car finale, Doug Gordon, Paso Robles, Calif., 5.527 seconds, 264.96 mph narrowly defeated Terry Ruckman, Grand Junction, Colo., 5.571 seconds, 264.13 mph.

Alan Ellis of Mapleton, Utah., faced off against Doug Lambeck of Irvine, Calif., in Comp Eliminator.  Lambeck got the advantage off the line but Ellis was able to run him down and grab the victory. Ellis made a winning pass of 6.662 196.64. Lambeck made a runner up pass of 8.530, 142.48.

Lambeck was not done yet though as he also advanced to the final in Stock Eliminator against fellow Californian Larry Gilley of Hilmar. Gilley gained the starting line advantage, but took too much stripe to give Lambeck the win. Lambeck wins his 19th Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Wally and his first in Stock. Lambeck registered a winning pass of 10.352, 120.03 to Gilley's 11.007, 117.71.

In Super Comp, Steve Williams kept his Lucas Oil World Championship hopes alive by knocking out Marko Pervolaris with a pass of 9.381, 159.61  to Perivolaris's., 9.419, 166.33 out of Petaluma, Calif.

The Top Sportsman final round was Ed Olpin, Pleasant Grove, Utah who took a small advantage off the line but Mike Williams, Tilley, Alb., was able to go by him and take the stripe for the win. Williams clocked in at 7.058, 192.38, as Olpin made a runner up pass of 7.155, 193.71. Meghan Molinari, Battleground, Wash., scored her first career victory as she ran down Jeremy Rapp, Las Vegas, in the Top Dragster final round. Molinari came in at 6.760, 194.49 as Rapp followed up with 7.455, 177.16.

The audience at Las Vegas Motor Speedway saw hometown racer, Leo Shaver out run Eric Jaquith, Queen Creek, Ariz., in the Sportsman Motorcycle final round presented by Harley-Davidson. Shaver hit 8.915, 147.84 as Jaquith followed with 9.531, 136.10.

Sunday

LAS VEGAS Persistent rain showers and unfavorable forecasts forced NHRA and track officials to postpone the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at The Strip at LVMS scheduled for this past weekend.  The event will be run in conjunction with the final NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event of the year, also held at The Strip in early November.

Eliminations are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 8 a.m. Super Stock will be run in random order while all other classes will race off their current ladder.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car will run eliminations on Thursday, Nov. 3, along with any elimination rounds for other classes not completed on Wednesday.  There will be a test and tune event held on Tuesday, Nov. 1, for all classes.

The scheduled for the Fall Las Vegas Lucas Oil event in November will run as previously scheduled with day one of qualifying and time trials set for Thursday, Nov. 3.

Qualifying for the event was complete on Saturday with Joey Severance and John Lombardo Jr. leading the fields in Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car.  Severance, Woodburn, Ore., topped the dragster field with a 5.357 second pass at 267.85 mph while Lombardo, Brea, Calif., drover his '15 Napa Auto Parts Camaro to a 5.544, 266.21 mph lap.

Pacific Division racers head to Auto Club Dragway at Auto Club Speedway for their next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, May 20-22.


Saturday

LAS VEGAS Day two is complete as is the qualifying rounds of Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car for this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  The alcohol classes had a pair of qualifying runs today along with final qualifying in the rest of the classes in competition which also started early rounds of eliminations.

Comp Eliminator, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman ran one qualifying session today which set their fields for eliminations.

Racing starts up at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning with eliminations.  Tickets are $25 for adults, children 6-14 are $5 per day and kids 5 and under are free with a paid adult.  For more information please call The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (800) 644-4444 or visit www.lvms.com.

Friday

LAS VEGAS Racing kicked off today for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the second of seven in the NHRA Pacific Division where drivers will earn points leading to national, regional and divisional championships

The 270 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car classes highlight the event making one qualifying run today and continue with two more rounds of qualifying on Saturday at noon & 4 p.m.

The division's Top Dragster and Top Sportsman classes made a pair of runs and will make a final qualifying pass on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.  Super Stock, Super Gas and the rest of the classes in competition ran qualifying and time trials today, which will continue tomorrow, followed by early rounds of eliminations and final eliminations on Sunday. 

Gates open at 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday with final qualifying and time trials set to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. Sunday kicks off at 8 a.m. with the continuation of eliminations in all classes.  Admission for the event is $25 for adults, children 6-14 are $5 per day and kids 5 and under are free with a paid adult.  For more information call The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (800) 644-4444 or visit www.lvms.com.

LAS VEGAS - The NHRA Pacific Division returns to the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on April 8-10. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. WHAT: NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series the second of six events in Pacific Division competition where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2016 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2016 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning regional and division teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2016 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.
