Sunday

ATLANTA, Ga.   In the final results from the second half of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Southern Shakedown double header at Atlanta Dragway, national champion Jeffrey Barker highlighted the list of winners for the third of six events in the Southeast division.

Barker, Warner Robins, Ga., crossed the finish line at 211.23 mph in 6.635 seconds in his '06 Cobalt which held off Dylan Scott, Columbus, N.C., in his '67 Mustang for the win in the division's Davis Golf Carts Top Sportsman class. This is the first win of the season for the 2015 Lucas Oil Top Sportsman national champion.

Van Puckett of Monroe, Ga., was a runner up in the first event, but held on for the win in Comp Eliminator with a winning lap of 8.262 seconds at 150.08 mph, while Glen Treadwell posted a runner up lap of 7.698 seconds at 170.34 mph.  

The Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster title went to Jeremy Hancock of Commerce, Ga, who got the win over Madison Ellison.  Hancock covered the quarter mile in 7.226 seconds at 179.42 mph to Ellison's 7.151 seconds at 186.87 mph.

In Super Stock and Stock it was Irvin Johns and Adam Davis making the trip to the winner's circle.  Johns, Memphis, Tenn. got a big starting line advantage and defeated Aaron Allison who was trying to repeat his win from the first event. In Stock it was a double breakout that gave Davis the win.  Davis went 11.005 seconds at 110.09 mph for the win over Joseph Santangelo, Marlborough, Conn., and his lap of 10.638 seconds at 115.90.

Other sportsman class winners included Rusty Cook of Cynthia, Ky., who beat Edmond Richardson in Super Gas running 9.915 seconds at 169.78 mph in his '99 Corvette; Ryan Richardson won his second title in Super Comp; and Jonathon Anderson maintained his perfect record in final rounds by taking home the Super Street trophy. 

It was a Georgia sweep in the Junior Dragster races as Carson Emmett of Cedar Bluff, won in the 6-9 year old category; Caroline McCarty from Hazelhurst won in the 10-12 year old class; and Sadie Wicks from the city of Roberta took home the win in the 13-18 year old category.

Southeast division racers are heading to zMax Dragway in Charlotte for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, April 14-16.

Saturday

COMMERCE, Ga. The first half of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Southern Shakedown double-header is in the books with Randy Daniels leading the way as he took the win in Comp Eliminator along with division hitter Jeff Adkinson who won in Stock for the home state.

Daniels, Grantsboro, N.C., was slow off the start but came on late to take the win over Van Puckett, Monroe, Ga., running 8.455 seconds at 160.42 mph to Puckett's 8.239, 158.33. Adkinson, Damascus, Ga., grabbed his eighth NHRA divisional Wally trophy taking out fellow Georgia racer Jimmy Parker running 10.619, 123.06 in his '69 Camaro.

Reigning Lucas Oil National champion Kevin Brannon, Boiling Springs, S.C., faced off with Sherman Adcock, Fortson, Ga., in Super Comp as the two left the line together and stayed close throughout the run with Brannon coming out on top in a double breakout. The win was Brannon's fifth as he remains perfect in final rounds.

Sandy Wilkins, Mont Ulla, N.C., was near perfect at the start in the Davis Golf Cart Top Sportsman cutting a .002 light which proved to be the difference as Wilkins notched his fifth win running 6.734 at 206.67 in his '69 Camaro over Jackie Robinson, Greer, S.C., with a 6.722, 205.98 in a '66 Chevy II.

In the Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster it was Darian Boesch, Kenner, La., strapping a hole shot on Steve Furr, Harrisburg, N.C., only to breakout and give Furr his 14th win as he crossed the finish line in 6.355 seconds, 218.87 mph.

Other winners were Aaron Allison, Macedonia, Ohio, over Marion Stephenson, Williamsport, Ind., in Super Stock; Raymond Miller, Spring City, Tenn., took out David Owens, Laurens, S.C., in Super Gas; and Clarence Woodham, Wetumpka, Ala., beat Leland Poppell, Odum, Ga., in Super Street.

Racers are back on track Sunday morning with eliminations rounds for the second half of the double-header weekend that will be followed by the winner's circle celebration.

ATLANTA, Ga. NHRA Southeast division racers are back in action at Atlanta Dragway as they kicked off their NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Southern Shakedown double header event. 

Today's action included qualifying and time trials for the first event.  Qualifying continues on Friday with Hickory Enclosed Trailers Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator, and Davis Golf Cart Top Sportsman at 10 a.m. with round 1 of eliminations beginning at noon.

COMMERCE, Ga. - The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Southeast Division arrives at Atlanta Dragway on March 31-April 3 with the Southern Shakedown Double Header. The double header is two of 44 events scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The second race starts qualifying and time trials Saturday at 8 a.m. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator, and Top Sportsman qualify Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. Eliminations continue Sunday at 9 a.m.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from JEGS High Performance. The 2016 JEGS Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2016 JEGS Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor JEGS High Performance is offering a "double up" bonus to JEGS Allstars participants. Any 2016 JEGS Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

DAVIS GOLF CARTS TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: Run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships and a share in the year-end purse. HICKORY ENCLOSED TRAILER SALES TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: Run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Dragster class are vying for division championships and a share in the year-end purse. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $2,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500

MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT: Drivers who compete in seven NHRA sportsman classes will be eligible to participate in a new sportsman shootout program sponsored by Moser Engineering. Moser Engineering Sportsman Shootout qualifying points will be earned by competitors in Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman at each Southeast Division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. The Moser Sportsman Shootout will be held at the 2016 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Rockingham Dragway with a posted purse of $15,000, with the winner taking home up to $5,000.

HUGHES PERFORMANCE No. 1 QUALIFIER: Racers in Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will compete for the Hughes Performance No. 1 Qualifier with the top qualifier in each class at each Southeast Divisional events receiving a $100 product certificate.
