Sunday

ACTON, Mont. In the final results from Yellowstone Drag Strip and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Jeff Lane and Butch Walsh led the list of winners who took home trophies and bragging rights.

This is a repeat win for Jeff Lane, North Bend, Wash., who was out second in his Comp eliminator final round but ran down Clint Sallee, Glendive, Mont., for the win in 8.753 seconds at 122.07 mph. Lane has been on a roll with 2015 wins at Boise, Idaho, Las Vegas, and Chandler, Ariz. Lane has 70 career final-round appearances. Local racer Sallee has had 33 career final-round appearances with a Division 5 win at Bandimere Speedway and a runner-up in Brainerd, Minn.

From Firth, Idaho, Butch Walsh got his first win in a breakout finish in Super Stock, going 10.638 seconds in 122.07 mph. Runner- up Cody Lane, North Bend, Wash., was out late and took too much stripe.

It was a battle of '70s Camaros in Stock eliminator. Scott Wells, Aurora, Colo., made his first appearance in a final round and earned his win with ease in his '74 Camaro as Jeff Parker, Powell, Wyo., suffered problems with his '70 Camaro. It was Parker's third career runner-up.

Additional winners in the Lucas Oil categories were Robbie White, Calgary, Alta., in Super Comp over Mike Shannon, who was looking to double up. Shannon came up with a win in Super Gas when Bill Cawsey cut a strong 0.006 light but then took too much stripe by just 0.011-second. Rick Newport, Bluffdale, Utah, took the honors in the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson class, destroying the Tree with a perfect reaction time.

Other racers visiting the winner's circle this weekend were Justin Cooper, Medical Lake, Wash., in Super Street; Ken Ratzloff, Idaho Falls, Idaho, got his first career win in RH Racecars Top Sportsman; and Trevor Ritchie, Sherwood Park, Alta., captured a win in his first final round in Rig Rentals Top Dragster.

Local racer Syl Schied Sr., Billings, Mont., took the award in Super Pro; Andy Small, Lino Lakes, Minn., in Pro; and Michael Hicks took the trophy in the Sportsman.

Where Shannon missed the double in the event eliminator, he did double up in the Super Comp and Super Gas Shootouts, knocking out Ryan Cook and Steve Laskowske. The Super Street Shootout went to Andy Schmall, the Box Shootout winner was Tim Partin, and No Box Shootout went to Mick Alley.
