Severance scores another Wally, Hunter repeats in Mission

Sunday

MISSION, B.C. In the final results from Mission Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Lordco Auto Parts B.C. Nationals, Joey Severance, Woodburn, Ore., and Greg Hunter, Sheridan, Wyo., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Severance, worked his way through the field and ran 5.304 seconds at 269.54 mph in his final round victory over Megan McKernan, who clocked in at 5.973 seconds, 176.57 mph. McKernan had the starting line advantage against Severance but then slowed and Severance was able to drive around her to take the win. This is Severance's 2nd win in a row. The last event was at the NHRA Kansas Nationals where he successfully took home the Wally in Top Alcohol Dragster.

Hunter faced off against Shane Westerfield, Anaheim, Calif., and posted a winning run of 5.709 seconds, 256.55 mph in his '11 Monte Carlo.  Westerfield drove to a 5.754 second, 257.21 mph lap for his runner up finish. The difference in their reaction times was 0.002 when they left the starting line but Hunter was able to stay ahead and repeat his 2014 Funny car win with another low 5.70 pass to defeat Westerfield.

In Super Stock and Stock, Jody Lang, Puyallup, Wash., took home the win in both categories. In Super Stock, Lang battled against Brian Weber, Black Diamond, Wash., in the final. Lang posted a winning run of 11.251 seconds, 91.92 mph. In Stock, Lang defeated David Rastad, Maple Ridge, B.C., and took home his 2nd Wally of the weekend. Against Rastad, Lang ran just 0.008 to his dial in and posted a winning run of 12.168 seconds, 102.02 mph in his '81 Malibu.

Mike Shannon, Kelowna, B.C., was another racer that doubled up this weekend and took home the wins in Super Comp and Super Gas. In Super Comp, Shannon faced Scott Taylor, St. Isidore, AB, and had a winning run of 8.919 seconds, 171.55 mph. In Super Gas, Shannon took the win in his '57 Corvette over George Scott, Graham, Wash. Shannon was off the line first and scored his second Wally with a 9.902 second, 147.56 mph pass over Taylor.

In Comp Eliminator, Dan Barton, Post Falls, Idaho, raced his 05' Cavalier down the track to take the win over Brian Hyerstay, Springfield, Ore. Hyerstay had just missed the green by -0.001 and gave the win to Barton.

Other racers visiting the winner's circle this weekend were Todd Sims, Puyallup, Wash., in Super Street; in the division's RH Racecars Top Sportsman class it was Darryn O'Connor, Fort John, BC., taking the win;  and Andy Morris, Olympia, Wash., won in the Rig Rentals Top Dragster.

Visiting the winners circle this weekend in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson was Cody Cumpton, Vancouver, Wash;  in Super Pro, Lorne Ridley, Mission, B.C., and in Pro E.T., Craig Johnson.

Northwest Division racers head to Yellowstone Dragstrip for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, June 27-28.

MISSION, B.C. Racers made final qualifying runs today as the fields were set for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Lordco Auto Parts B.C. Nationals event at Mission Raceway. 

Racers in eleven classes of competition took to the track that included Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars, Stock and Super Stock, and Comp Eliminator.  Gates open at 7 a.m. on Sunday with racing scheduled to start at 9 a.m.  Tickets are $25 for adults and Children 12 and under are Free with a paid adult. MISSION, B.C. The NHRA Northwest Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series kicked off today for the Lordco Auto Parts B.C. Nationals at Mission Raceway as more than 300 racers took to the track for opening day qualifying and time trials.

Highlighting the day's action was the Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car classes who made a single qualifying run as did the racers in Comp Eliminator, the Rig Rentals Top Dragster and the RH Racecars Top Sportsman.  Each of these classes will make a pair of qualifying runs on Saturday that will set the fields for Sunday's Eliminations.

Saturday's racing action gets underway at 9 a.m. for final time trials and qualifying in all classes.  Saturday caps off the day with the alcohol classes and special exhibition runs set for 1 and 4 p.m.  Eliminations are scheduled to begin Sunday morning at 9 a.m. with first round for the Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car classes scheduled for noon.

The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.  The Division's RH Racecars Top Sportsman and Rig Rentals Top Dragster classes will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Mission Raceway open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start Friday morning at 9 a.m. Comp Eliminator, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will qualify Friday at 1 and 4 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify Friday at 3 p.m., and Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m.  Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at noon.

Tickets for the LORDCO B.C. Nationals at Mission Raceway Park are $15 Friday, $25 Saturday and $25 Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with paid adult.

SUNDAY, June 7 - Gates open at 7 a.m. Eliminations begin at 9 a.m. First round for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car is scheduled for noon.

BONUS  PROGRAMS:

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2015 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2015 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2015 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2015 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

RH RACECARS TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Northwest Division RH Racecars Top Sportsman Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

RIG RENTALS TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: The Northwest Division Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Northwest division's Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
