SALT LAKE CITY – In the final results from Rocky Mountain Raceways and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Jimmy DeFrank, Chatsworth, Calif, and Ralph Van Paepeghem, Garden Valley, Idaho, took home the wins in Super Stock and Comp Eliminator respectively.

DeFrank, worked his way through the field and ran 9.266 seconds at 145.96 mph in his final round victory over Justin Lamb, Henderson, Nev, who clocked in at 9.238 seconds, 144.46 mph. It was a good drag race between both of the drivers but DeFrank had the better light and pulled away to take the win. This was DeFrank's third Pacific Division win in Super Stock this year. He received his other divisional wins at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and at Sonoma Raceway.

In Comp Eliminator, Van Paepeghem faced off against Alan Ellis, Mapleton, Utah, and posted a winning run of 7.560 seconds, 168.66 mph in his '32 Bantam. Ellis drove to a 6.836 second, 195.52 mph lap for his runner up finish. Both of the drivers had nice passes down the track but Van Paepeghem had a holeshot and held on for the win and took home the NHRA Wally trophy. Van Paepeghem's last divisional event win was in the Northwest division where he took home the Wally in Comp Eliminator at Mission Raceway.

Barry Willoughby, Park City, Utah, took home the win in Super Gas. Willoughby had a winning run of 10.354 seconds, 147.88 mph to defeat Steve Williams, Beaumont, Calif., who posted a runner-up finish of 10.404 seconds, 145.86 mph. Williams was late on the tree and Willoughby was able to get his '67 Camaro down the track to take home the Wally.

In Super Comp, Steve Casner, Sheridan, Calif., defeated Patrick Maher, Aurora, Colo., posting a winning run of 9.377 seconds, 172.94 mph. Maher had a runner-up finish of 9.354 seconds, 176.12 mph. Casner had the starting line advantage over Maher and was able to hold on to the lead to take the win.

Ed Olpin, Pleasant Grove, Utah, who won at Rocky Mountain last year, was able to repeat this year and take home the Wally in Top Sportsman. Olpin faced off against Doug Watts, Syracuse, Utah, and posted a winning run of 7.577 seconds, 182.62 mph in his '68 Camaro. Watts went red on the tree giving the win to Olpin.  

The NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series was also running in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series over the weekend. In Top Fuel Harley, Damian Cownden, Victoria, B.C.,qualified last in the field but was able to pull out the win over Mike Pelrine, Bruderheim, Alb. Cownden posted a winning run of 6.569 seconds, 215.72 mph. In Pro Fuel Harley, Bill Bentz took the win over Johnny Vickers. Vickers had the starting line advantage over Bentz, but Bentz was able to make up the time down the track and took home the win.

Other racers visiting the winner's circle this weekend were; Mark Faul, Tacoma, Wash., in Stock; John Dexter, Morrison, Colo., in Super Street. In the division's Top Dragster class it was Doug Johnson, Pleasant Grove, Utah, taking the win. The other winners in the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series were; Edward Golson, Conifer, Colo., in Screamin' Eagle Performance Harley; Lance Bonham, Sunnyvale, Calif., in Pro Gas Harley; Matt Bluett, Chandler, Ariz., in Hot Street Harley; and Larry Fore, Commerce City, Colo., in Draggin Bagger Harley.

In Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, Benjamin McEwan had a great reaction time of 0.005 and posted a winning run of 9.946 seconds, 122.00 mph and defeated Leo Shaver, Las Vegas, who had a runner-up finish of 9.810 seconds, 133.90 mph.

Pacific Division racers head to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, November 6-9.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. – NHRA Pacific Division racers returned to Rocky Mountain Raceways as competitors took to the track for opening day of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.

Racers in nine different classes made qualifying and time trials today which set the fields for Monday's eliminations.  Highlighting the action was Comp Eliminator, the Pacific Division's Top Dragster and Top Sportsman classes, as well as Top Fuel Harley and the racers in the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series that made a trio of qualifying runs on the quarter-mile track.

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Rocky Mountain Raceways host the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series on Sept. 26-28. The event is six of seven events in the Lucas Oil Series Pacific Division and one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. The event will feature drivers in nine categories including Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, as well as the Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, Top Dragster Series and Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson.

Gates open at noon on Friday with a test and tune session for the Lucas classes along with a gamblers race. Gates open at 8 a.m. on Saturday and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. Qualifying and time trials start Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman qualify on Saturday, at 11 a.m., 2 and 5 p.m. Eliminations start Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Tickets for Rocky Mountain Raceway are $10 Friday, $20 Saturday and $10 Sunday. Children 5-12 are $5 Friday, $10 Saturday and $5 Sunday and children 4 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

BONUS PROGRAMS: NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2014 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2014 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2014 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning regional and division teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2014 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.

PACIFIC DIVISION TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, runs in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Pacific division's Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

PACIFIC DIVISION TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: The Pacific Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Pacific division's Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships.
