Sunday

GILLIAM, La. Louisiana racers were the ones highlighting the winners circle this past weekend at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Thunder Road Raceway Park and one Louisiana racer was able to continue their winning streak in Stock Eliminator.

Slate Cummings, Ponchatoula, La., worked his way through the field and ran 10.300 seconds at 116.06 mph in his final round victory in Stock Eliminator over Jimmy Hidalgo, Donaldsonville, La., who clocked in at 11.165 seconds, 106.94 mph. Cummings had the starting line advantage over Hidalgo and was able to drive around him for the win. Cummings is repeating his win in Stock Eliminator where he took home two Wally's at the last divisional event at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park where he doubled up and also took home the win in Super Stock.

Another Louisiana racer taking the win in Super Comp was Jackson Collier, West Monroe, La. Collier faced off against Craig Anderson, Waxahachie, Texas, and posted a winning run of 8.909 seconds at 178.07 mph. Collier had the starting line advantage and was able to hold off Anderson to take the win.

In Comp Eliminator, it was Joey Tanksley, Greenwell Springs, La, scoring the win over David Rampy, Piedmont, Ala. Tanksley posted a winning run of 6.376 seconds at 210.80 mph. Tanksley was off the line first and was able to get the win over Rampy.

In the division's Orteq Top Sportsman Series it was Daniel Liebham, Tomball, Texas, taking the win over Mario Boesch, Kenner, La. This was a close race between these two Top Sportsman racers. Leibham makes a winning pass of 6.982 seconds at 188.62 mph. Boesch had a runner-up finish of 6.964 seconds at 193.13 mph. Leibham had a great pass and a 0.003 second package to take the win.

In the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley- Davidson, Frederick Quiett from Baton Rouge, La., takes the win on his '83 Suzuki. Quiett faced off against Eddie Glaze from Missouri City, Texas. Glaze was a little too quick off the line and turned on the red light and gives the Quiett the win and the Wally.

Other racers visiting the winner's circle this weekend were Mike Cotten, Cave Creek, Ariz., in Super Stock; Ross Laris, Raceland, La, in Super Gas; and Val Harmon, Luling, La, in Super Street. In the division's Sunset Racecraft Top Dragster series it was Mike Weaver, Highlands, Texas, taking the win.

This was the fifth of six events in the NHRA South Central Division.  Next up for the division is Thunder Valley Raceway Park, October 3-5.

GILLIAM, La. Day two is in the books and the fields are set at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Thunder Road Raceway Park. Qualifying was finalized in the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and the remaining classes in competition. 

Gates open on Sunday at 8 a.m. with racers battling it out in head to head competition for a chance at taking home the trophy and their share of cash and contingency awards.  Tickets are $20 for adults and children 13-17 are $10. Friday

GILLIAM, La. NHRA South Central division racers converged on Thunder Road Raceway Park for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.  The event is the fifth of six events that run through October where competitors will earn points toward both national and divisional championships.

Racers in 10 different classes along with the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson made qualifying and time trial runs today with eliminations in all classes scheduled for Sunday.  The division's Orteq Top Sportsman and Sunset Racecraft Top Dragster classes are also in action this weekend with final qualifying passes continuing Saturday before beginning eliminations on Sunday.

Gates open Saturday at 9 a.m. with racing scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.  Tickets are $20 on Saturday for adults, children 13-17 are $10.  For more information please call the track, (318) 299-RACE, or visit www.racetrrp.com.

GILLIAM, La. - The NHRA South Central Division heads to Thunder Road Raceway Park for the first time on September 12-14. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division's Orteq Top Sportsman Series, Sunset Racecraft Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Thunder Road Raceway Park open at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday. Qualifying and time trials start at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator qualify at 1:30 and 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m. Round one for Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator starting at 10:30 a.m.

BONUS PROGRAMS:

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2014 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2014 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2014 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2014 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

oRTEQ Top Sportsman Series: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500. Top Sportsman racers may run the six South Central Division Lucas Oil events as well as three Lucas Oil Series races in the other NHRA divisions.

SUNSET RACECRAFT TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Dragster class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
