Sunday

GREAT BEND, Kan., In the final results from NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Thunder on the Plains and SRCA Dragstrip, Kansas natives Steven Wilson, Emporia, Kan., and JR Lobner, Gardner, Kan., took home the wins in Super Street and Top Sportsman respectively.

Wilson, worked his way through the field and ran 11.052 seconds at 129.02 mph in his final round victory over Jordan Stallbaumer, Wakarusa, Kan., who clocked in at 11.122 seconds, 129.32 mph. This was a close race but Wilson took the win by 0.006 seconds, approximately 14 inches.

Lodner faced off against Craig Amerine, Great Bend, Kan., and posted a winning run of 7.368 seconds, 176.63 mph in his '05 S-10. Amerine drove to a 7.713 second, 176.07 mph lap for his runner up finish. Lodner with a nearly perfect reaction time of 0.002 helped secure his Top Sportsman win.

Shaun Vincent, who was also the number one qualifier, met up with Todd Patterson in the final for Comp Eliminator. Vincent posted a winning run of 8.552 seconds, 154.69 mph in his '02 S-10. Patterson with a pass of 8.102 seconds, 166.60 mph gave him the runner up finish.

Other racers visiting the winner's circle this weekend were David Bogner, Kearney, Neb., in Super Stock; Fred Snavely, Joblin, Mo., in Super Comp; Bill Dennis, Roswell, N.M. in Super Gas; Jason Medlin, Belton, Mo., in Top Dragster, and Brett Speer, Little Falls, Minn., in Stock Eliminator. Jason Clampitt, Lino Lakes, Minn., was the winner in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson.

In conjunction with this weekend's event at SRCA Dragstrip was the Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street Karl's Performance Super Shootout presented by Karl Chevrolet. Todd McCann, Centennial, Colo., with a pass of 9.046 seconds, 151.44 mph took the win over Chris Burrell, Claude, Texas, in Super Comp. Tom Carlson, Two Harbors, Minn., made a winning pass of 10.063 seconds, 143.83 mph, took the win over James Kunkle, Wichita, Kan., in Super Gas. In the Super Street category, Dan Eichem, Wamego, Kan., with a pass of 11.044, 137.39 mph defeated Steven Wilson, Emporia, Kan.

West Central Division racers head to Brainerd International Raceway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, May 31 June 1.

GREAT BEND, Kan. NHRA West Central division racers returned to S.R.C.A. Dragstrip and the site of the first NHRA National event more than 50 years ago as competitors took to the track for opening day of the Thunder on the Plains NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.

Racers in nine different classes made qualifying and time trials today which set the fields for Sunday's eliminations. Highlighting the action was Comp Eliminator, Fineline Madcap Top Dragster and the Jerry Haas Top Sportsman classes that made a trio of qualifying runs on the quarter-mile track.

Sunday's action begins at 9 a.m. with round 1 of eliminations. Tickets are $20 each day for adults, children 12 and under are free with a paid adult. For more information please call S.R.C.A. Dragstrip (620) 792-5079 or visit www.srcadragstrip.com.

GREAT BEND, Kan. - Thunder on the Plains rumbles at the S.R.C.A Dragstrip on May 17-18. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.  Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division's Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series, Fineline Madcap Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at S.R.C.A. Dragstrip open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start Saturday at 9 a.m. Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Comp Eliminator  qualify Saturday at 11 a.m., 2:30 and 6 p.m. Eliminations begin Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2014 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2014 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2014 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning regional and division team will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2014 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

AEROMOTIVE LOW QUALIFIER BONUS: A $3,000 bonus fund paid to the low qualifiers in Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and Stock Eliminator at each of the division's six races. The best qualifying driver in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock will each get $200 per event, while the best qualifier in Stock Eliminator will get $100 per race.

JERRY HAAS RACE CARS TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES presented by Aeromotive: The Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the West Central division's Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $2,750 champions' purse posted by Jerry Haas Race Cars will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

FINELINE GRAPHICS & MADCAP RACING ENGINES TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: The West Central Division Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the West Central division's Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $2,750 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
