March 21-22

Jerry Emmons led the list of winners for the rain delayed Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Showdown at Sundown originally scheduled at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. Six classes finished up their elimination rounds this weekend at the JEGS Cajun Sportsnationals at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, La.

Emmons, Pasadena, Texas, drove his Lucas Oil sponsored '05 Cavalier Super Stock to the win over Jimmy Hidalgo Jr., out of Donaldsonville, La., with a lap of 9.645 seconds at 134.03 mph.

Emmons was one of four Texas racers taking home trophies as he was joined by Deborah Ridenhour, Clint Parker and Robert Sanders in the winner's circle. Ridenhour, Kennedale, Texas, drove her '77 Volaire to the win over Jimmie Hutto, Houston, in Stock and Parker, Gilmer, Texas, went 10.917, 140.78 mph to defeat Charlie Owens, White Oak, Texas in Super Street. Sanders, Katy, Texas, road his '82 Suzuki to victory in the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson class holding off Derek Dorey, Kingswood, Texas.

A pair of Louisiana racers also took home trophies as Michelle LeBleu and Adam Hickey added wins to their resumes. LeBlue, Lake Charles, La., went 208.14 mph in 6.561 seconds for the win over Todd Schumert, Kenner, La., clocking in at 6.708, 189.90.

Hickey, Ponchatoula, La., went 8.203 in his '06 Cobalt at 152.85 mph to beat Ray Goodman, Boerne, Texas, in his '32 roadster.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Duane Shields defeated Mike Strasburg for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Top Alcohol Dragster final that was delayed due to persistent rain showers a week ago at Royal Purple Raceway, Baytown, Texas.

The final round was contested during qualifying runs for the NHRA national event at Auto-Plus Raceway where Shields posted a run of 5.285 seconds at 272.39 mph.  Prior to rain forcing the delay, Shield, Boulder City, Nev., took out Randy Meyers, Spring Hill, Kan., and David Broundkowski, Cypress, Texas in rounds one and two.

Sunday

BAYTOWN, Texas Faced with a pessimistic forecast, NHRA and track officials moved up the start of eliminations to Saturday afternoon for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Royal Purple Raceway with several rounds of competition begin completed before the rain made its way in about 8:30 p.m. forcing final eliminations in most classes to be rescheduled at future events.

Prior to the rain, Duane Shields and Mike Strasburg made their way through rounds one and two and will face off in the final of Top Alcohol Dragster.  Shields qualified No. 2 and beat Randy Meyer and David Brounkowski while Strasburg qualified No. 1 and outran Karl Brounkowski and Forrest Fair.

In Top Alcohol Funny Car it was Jay Payne leading the field in qualifying and advancing to the final with wins over Annie Whiteley and Mark Billington.  Payne will meet Shane Westerfield in the final as he won over Ulf Leanders and Jonnie Lindberg in rounds one and two.

Several of the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series classes saw final round action led by Clint Rabb and Michael Majeska in the Pro Gas and Street Pro classes.  Rabb beat Lance Bonham on his '13 Street Glide while Majeska held off Neil Sonder with a lap of 10.621 seconds at 127.19 mph.

Mageska was both pulling double duty running in two classes this weekend.  Majeska also won in the Harley 10.50 Index class over Eddie Godson.

Darrell Schwalbach beat Larry Fore in the final of Draggin' Bagger and Tony Dekerlegand won over William Rowe in Hot Street.

Super Street, Stock, Sportsman Motorcycle, Super Stock, Top Dragster, and Competition Eliminator will be completed in Belle Rose, La., in two weeks, during the JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals.

Super Gas, Super Comp and Top Sportsman will be completed during the Division 4 Lucas Oil event at Ennis, Texas, May 2-4.

The Harley Pro Fuel and Top Fuel finals will be contested during qualifying for the Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series Division 1 event at Virginia Motorsports Park, April 4-5.

The Top Alcohol Dragster finals will be contested either at the national event at Gainesville this coming weekend, or back here in Baytown at the national event next month.

The Top Alcohol Funny Car final will be contested during the Division 7 Lucas Oil event at Las Vegas March 21-23.

Friday

BAYTOWN, Texas - Racing kicked off today for The Showdown at Sundown presented by Woodforest National Bank and the NHRA South Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing event with upwards of 400 racers expected to battle the quarter mile this weekend at Royal Purple Raceway.

Racers in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car took to the track today for their opening round of qualifying that will be followed by a pair of qualifying rounds on Saturday evening.  Racers in the remaining classes of competition also ran qualifying and time trials today with final qualifying scheduled for Saturday that will set the fields for Sunday's elimination rounds.

The NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series is also in action that includes riders in Top Fuel Harley and Pro Fuel for their first of 10 events in the 2014 season.

Gates open at 8 a.m. on Saturday with racing set to begin at 9 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify at 5 and 9 p.m.  Tickets are $20 for adults, children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. BAYTOWN, Texas Royal Purple Raceway will kick off the NHRA South Central Division with the Showdown at Sundown presented by Woodforest National Bank on March 7-9, 2014. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

The NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series will also be in competition for its first of 10 events across the country. Classes include Top Fuel Harley, Pro Fuel, Pro Gas, Draggin' Bagger, Street Pro, Hot Street, and an Index Class. The series posts an event purse of nearly $20,000 with a total series purse of more than $200,000.

Saturday night's Showdown at Sundown will run at 5 and 9:30 p.m. The special feature includes the Top Alcohol Dragsters, Funny Cars and Nitro Harleys along with Top Dragster, Top Sportsman, Comp Eliminator and the Pro Fuel Harley-Davidson motorcycle class. Eliminations continuing Sunday at 8 a.m. Round one for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car start at noon.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES: Fact Sheet

WHAT: NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Showdown at Sundown, the first of six events in South Central Division competition where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division's Orteq Energy Technologies Top Sportsman Series, Sunset RaceCraft Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also be run in conjunction with the event.

 The NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series will also be in competition for its first of ten events across the country. Classes include Top Fuel Harley, Pro Fuel, Pro Gas, Draggin' Bagger, Street Pro, Hot Street, and an Index Class. The series posts an event purse of nearly $20,000 with a total series purse of more than $200,000.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2014 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2014 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2014 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2013 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

oRTEQ Top Sportsman Series: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500. Top Sportsman racers may run the six South Central Division Lucas Oil events as well as three Lucas Oil Series races in the other NHRA divisions.

SUNSET RACECRAFT TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Dragster class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500.

NHRA HARLEY-DAVIDSON DRAG RACING SERIES: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, Classes include Top Fuel Harley, Pro Fuel, Pro Gas, Draggin' Bagger, Street Pro, Hot Street, and an Index Class. The series posts an event purse of nearly $20,000 with a total series purse of more than $200,000.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
