Monday

STANTON, Mich. NHRA North Central division racers were back in action today at Mid-Michigan Motorplex with Ray Connolly and Drew Skillman each adding a notch to their win columns in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.    Both drivers picked up their first North Central division win of the year but have already each scored a pair of NHRA national event wins earlier this year.  Persistent rain throughout the day on Sunday forced officials to carry over the remainder of eliminations to Monday.

Connolly, Elyria, Ohio, faced off with JEGS Allstar finalist Greg Kamplain, Brownsburg, Ind., in the final of Super Comp running an 8.916 second lap at 177.37 mph for the holeshot win to the quicker Kamplain at 8.911, while Skillman took his '12 Mustang to the winner's circle beating out Jeff Adkinson, Damascus, Ga.  Skillman, Greenwood, Ind., had a perfect .000 second reaction time, then ran 8.870 on his 8.84 dial for the win.  Adkinson clocked in at 10.46 at 115 mph.

North Central Division JEGS Allstar rep and last year's event runner-up Joey Fuesting closed the deal this year taking the win in Super Gas over Doug Kroft.  The Waukegan, Ill., racer was .007 at the start, then ran it out to a 9.873 second lap when Kroft, Wabash, Ind., left early with a red-light foul start.

In the division's Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster class it was Christopher Carrico, Seymour, Ind., posting a .017 second package to oust Marco Abruzzi.  Carrico covered the quarter-mile in 6.993 seconds at 189.91 mph to Abruzzi's 7.142, 188.71.  Abruzzi also advanced to the final round at the last North Central division event at Route 66 Raceway.

The lone Michigan home state winner this weekend was Kenneth Langlois, Milan, Mich., who took out Fred Sommer, Fisher, Ill., for the Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman title.  Langlois went 163.28 mph in his '63 Corvette to Sommer's 8.003, 148.19.

Rounding out the winners was Brian Browell downing David Billingsley in Comp Eliminator, Rickey Decker beat Fred Bartoli in Super Stock and Damien Hazelton won over Ed Jirousek in Super Street.  Browell ran down Billingsley with a 7.224 second pass.  Bartoli left early with a red-light foul to give Decker the win and Hazelton and Jirousek were close at both ends of the track with Hazelton taking the strip in 11.147 seconds.
