SPOKANE, Wash. Eddy and Casey Plaizier shared the winner's circle celebration this weekend at Spokane County Raceway for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northwest Thunderfest while a pair of local racers squared off for the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson championship.

Eddy Plaizier watched his son Casey take out Ryan Water as he waited for his Super Gas final round match up with Ken Harkema. Casey drove his '96 Firebird to a lap of 10.75 seconds at 118.14 mph for his win in Stock Eliminator over Ryan Warter who left early with the red-light foul start.

Minutes later Eddy defended his championship from a year ago taking out Harkema, Spokane, Wash., in 10.127 seconds at 159.68 mph in his '63 Corvette and the celebration was on. The pair will take their trophies back to Edmonton, Alb.

In Super Comp it was the 2011 event champion returning to his winning ways as Bob Woodruff, Maple Valley, Wash., downed Dale Hrenko, Port Orchard, Wash., with a pass of 9.403, 137.67.

Two Spokane County Raceway regulars met up in the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson final round as Buff Kobs, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, beat Caleb Dahl with an 8.084, 165.25 mph lap on his '95 Kawasaki.

Daryl Hemley picked up his first win since 2009 and his third overall in the RH Racecars Top Sportsman class as he covered the quarter mile in 7.123 seconds at 194.59 mph to Shawn Herbst's 7.907 at 174.65 and Dan Provost took home the Top Dragster crown when Ryan Carlson red-lighted. Provost, Abbotsford, B.C., drove it out to a 7.197, 189.11.

Pat Byron advanced to the final round in Comp Eliminator for the second year in a row, closing the deal on Ralph Van Paepeghem for the win going 6.941, 191.20 in his dragster. The win was Byron's first divisional in Comp Eliminator.

Spokane, Wash., resident Tom Clark grabbed his first NHRA Wally trophy taking the win in Super Pro with a lap of 7.66 seconds at 162 mph over the red-lighting Keri Ebertz who clocked in at 7.94, 161 and Stefan Kondolay won in Pro when Garth Draeger left early handing the win to Kondolay out of  Chilliwack, B.C.

Rounding out the winners were Joe Sorensen, Woodburn, Ore., in Super Stock and Bill Gee, Silverton, Ore., in Super Street. Sorensen took out former Lucas Oil World Champion Jackie Alley, Eagle, Idaho as the two faced off in a pair of '69 Camaros. Gee raced his '66 Nova to a lap of 11.072, 135.37 over Mike Schoenfeld and his '84 T-Bird.

Northwest Division racers head to north to Mission Raceway Park for their next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, June 14-16.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Racing kicked off today for the NHRA Northwest Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Points Meet at Spokane County Raceway with more than 300 racers expected to battle the quarter mile this weekend. 

Racers in Comp Eliminator, the 200 mph Top Dragsters and the RH Racecars Top Sportsman took to the track today for qualifying as all three classes set their fields for Sunday's eliminations.  Saturday's evening action included exhibition runs by Alky Funny Car and Pro Mods as the remainder the of the classes in competition ran qualifying and time trials today in preparation for tomorrow's eliminations. 

Gates open at 8 a.m. on Sunday with racing set to begin at 9.  Tickets are $15 for adults, children 6-12 are just $5 and kids 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.  Spokane County Raceway is located in Airway Heights, Wash., off I-90.  For more information call Spokane County Raceway (509) 244-3333 or visit www.racing.sc.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane County Raceway will host the NHRA Lucas Oil Division Points Meet May 25-26, 2013. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. The Northwest Division's RH Racecars Top Sportsman Series, Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event along with the crowd favorite Alky Funny Cars and Pro Mods in a Saturday Night exhibition.

Gates at Spokane County Raceway opens at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Qualifying and time trials begin Saturday at 9 a.m. Comp Elimination will qualify Saturday at 11 a.m., 3 and 6 p.m.  Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m.

Spectator tickets for the Spokane County Raceway event are $20 Saturday and $15 Sunday. Children 6 to 12 are $5 each day. Children 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2013 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2013 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2013 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2013 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.

RH RACECARS TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Northwest Division Top Sportsman Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Northwest division's Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

NORTHWEST DIVISION TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: The Northwest Division Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Northwest division's Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships.
