GREAT BEND, Kan. – It was a family affair for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Thunder on the Plains at S.R.C.A. Drag Strip this weekend as Glen Amerine nearly shared the winner's circle with his son Craig who was the runner-up in Top Sportsman, and brothers battled in the final round for the Stock Eliminator championship.

Great Bend, Kan., resident Amerine took out fellow Super Street racer John Dexter in his '69 Camaro running 11.049 seconds at 129.55 mph. Amerine's son Craig came one round short of joining his dad in the winner's circle as he fell to Tom Donovan in the Jerry Haas Top Sportsman presented by Aeromotive class. Donovan, Wellsville, Kan., was better at the line combined with a 7.319 second elapsed time for the win to Craig's 7.883, 172.41 mph.

The Stock Eliminator championship came down to a pair of brothers going head to head in the final round with Luke Siebert, Tecumseh, Kan., taking the win in his '69 Nomad over his brother Nick, Wamego, Kan., who left early with a red-light foul start.

Jeff Koron and Michael Shelton added to the local list of winners as Koron, Hayes, Kan., took the win in the Fineline Madcap Top Dragster class and Shelton, Great Bend, Kan., won over Gordon Fangmeyer in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson. Koron defeated Tom Williams, Leonardville, Kan., by 0.002 seconds in the closest final of the day running 6.758 seconds at 201.13 mph and Shelton went 9.789, 130.47 on his '08 Hayabusa.

Jason DeForrest met up with Justin Jenkins in the Super Stock final as the two are in a battle for the West Central JEGS Allstars. DeForrest beat Jenkins for the Super Stock title which should also move him into the points lead with one race to go for the JEGS Allstars held at Route 66 Raceway outside Chicago the end of June.

Defending West Central division Super Gas Champion Kevin Moore, Littleton, Colo., won over Dennis Hay in his '34 Chevy running 160.29 mph in 10.082 seconds to the quicker Hay at 10.023, 161.98.

Rounding out the winners in Great Bend was Todd Patterson, Augusta, Kan., in Comp Eliminator and Landon Stallbaumer, Wakarusa, Kan., in Super Comp. Winners in the Super Shootouts were Mark Potts in Super Comp, Rich Shepard in Super Gas and Dennis Padilla in Super Street.
