Saturday (Oct. 13)

REYNOLDS, Ga. – Racing resumed this weekend for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event that was postponed due to weather last month in Bristol, Tenn.  Final eliminations were concluded today in conjunction with qualifying and time trials for the Lucas Oil event at Silver Dollar Raceway, the final event of the NHRA Southeast Division 2012 series.

Michael Hardee defeated Glen Treadwell for the Comp Eliminator title as the pair was nearly identical off the line with Hardee running an 8.459 second lap at 161.38 for the win. Treadwell crossed the in at 8.350, 144.15.

John Taylor and Casey Spradlin took the wins in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster.  Taylor, Naples, Fla., took the starting line advantage and ran it out for the win at 7.550 seconds, 177.86 mph in defeating the quicker Tyrone Graham with a run of 7.235, 180.89.  Spradlin clocked in at 211.36 mph in 6.464 seconds to beat Ken Wells with a pass of 7.166, 174.28

Sherman Adcock took the final win and trophy to close out the Bristol event winning over Michael Adams in Super Gas.  Adcock went 9.923, 159.83 to Adams with a 9.899, 162.02 mph pass.

Sunday (Sept. 29)

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The NHRA Southeast Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series tackled the quarter mile at Bristol Dragway with hundreds of racers going head to head in Sunday's elimination rounds. While the majority of eliminations were completed, eliminations in Comp, Top Dragster, Top Sportsman, and Super Gas will finish at the Division 2 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Reynolds, Ga., in two weeks.

Joe Santangelo and Brad Plourd lead the short list of winners today at Bristol Dragway for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.

Defending Stock National Champion, Santangelo, from Marlborough, Conn., took his '94 Achieva through eliminations and into the winner's circle defeating Craig Marshall in today's Super Stock final round. Santangelo went 10.649 seconds at 117.22 mph to Marshall's quicker 9.050, 151.31 using a starting line advantage and running closer to his index than Marshall out of Winchester, Ohio.

Plourd, Avon, Ind., added to his collection of the coveted NHRA Wally trophy by beating Michael Shelton, Independence, Ky., in Super Comp. Plourd went 9.192 seconds at 137.27 mph to Shelton's slowing 11.640 run.

The Stock title went to Donnie Carroll, New Milford, Conn., and his '97 Formula who knocked out Robbie Shaw and Leland Poppell won Super Street on a double breakout with Ed Pauley, Shelby, N.C. Carroll went 10.612 at 121.90 to Shaw's 10.337, 118.65 and Poppell was 10.896 on his winning run.

Cooling weather and declining track temperatures forced officials to postpone final eliminations for Comp Eliminator, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Super Gas. These classes will complete their elimination rounds at the next NHRA Southeast Division Lucas Oil event at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, Ga.

Running in conjunction with the event were the three Southeast Division index classes with John Rollins, Brendan George, and Larry Ericksmoen taking the wins. Rollins, High Springs, Fla., beat Jacob Rutledge in 10.00; Chris Justus fouled, giving the win to George in 11.00; and Ericksmoen won in 12.00 when Shane Williams fouled as well.

Southeast Division racers head to Silver Dollar Raceway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, October 12-14.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – NHRA Southeast division racers are at Bristol Dragway for this weekend's action in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.  The event is the fifth of six Southeast divisional events in the 2012 season where competitors will earn points toward both national and divisional championships.  Racers made qualifying and time trial runs today with racers in Comp, the Davis Golf Cart Top Sportsman and the Hickory Trailers Top Dragster classes highlighting the day's action with a pair of qualifying sessions each. 

Many of these racers were in competition at ZMax Dragway and the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals two weeks ago prior to heading here to Bristol.  Saturday's gates open at 7:30 a.m. with final qualifying and time trials for all classes in the morning followed by round 1 of eliminations at 11 a.m.  Spectator tickets are $20 and children 12 and under are free with a paid adult.  For more information please call Bristol Dragway, (423) BRISTOL or visit www.bristoldragway.com.

Bristol Dragway will host the fifth of six NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events in NHRA's Southeast division on Sept.28-29, 2012.  The event is one of 43 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

Gates at Bristol Dragway open at 8 a.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 9 a.m. and continue Saturday at 8 a.m. Comp Eliminator, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will have two qualifying sessions on Friday, at 2 and 5 p.m., and one on Saturday at 10 a.m. Eliminations start Saturday at 11 a.m.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Bristol Dragway are $20 Friday and $20 Saturday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

BONUS PROGRAMS: NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2012 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2013 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2013 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2013 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

Davis Golf Carts Top Sportsman Series: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships and a share in the year-end purse.
