Sunday BOISE, Idaho – Jeff Lane grabbed his first win of the year at this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as did Jason Rupert for the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series as both series were in competition at the Napa Auto Parts Ignitor at Firebird Raceway in Boise, Idaho. Lane, the defending Northwest Division Comp Eliminator Champion, out of North Bend, Wash., drove his '11 Cobalt to the win over Aaron Strong, Auburn, Wash. Lane went 8.288 seconds at 137.11 mph to Strong's 8.438, 129.06 in his '05 Cavalier. The win gives Lane an early season lead in the Northwest Division. Rupert win's came in the AA/Funny Car of the Heritage Series which marks his second win in a row at Firebird defending his Ignitor title from a year ago. The Southern California racer qualified No. 1 on Saturday then beat the No. 2 qualifier John Hale, Dallas, for the win. Rupert covered the quarter mile in 5.782 seconds at 251.60 mph to Hale's 6.043, 233.34. Boise's own Gordon Boven drove his '72 Barracuda to the Super Street title going 11.125 seconds at 134.48 mph to outrun Steve Glenn, Covington, Wash., in his '55 Wagon. Zak Pedraza nearly gave Boise a pair of wins but he came up one round short falling to Tessa Lancaster, Ontario, Ore., in the Heavy class. Another former Northwest Champion Michael Dalrymple took the trophy in Super Gas while Cheryl Morris outlasted the Super Comp Field. Dalrymple, Sunnyside, Wash., beat Justin Juel, Spokane, Wash., in his '27 roadster at 130.45 mph and Morris, Olympia, Wash., held off Stefan Kondolay, Chilliwack, B.C., with a 9.166, 166.60 pass. Kondolay was looking for the rare double up as he also advanced to the final round in Top Sportsman where he came out on the winning side in his '69 Camaro with a pass of 7.380 seconds at 181.61 mph to down Daryl Hemley, Burley, Wash., clocking in at 7.608, 181.37. Washington racers took home a total of 8 trophies this weekend including Top Dragster, Stock and Super Stock. Tom Clark, Spokane, outran Shane Molinari, Battle Ground, Wash., in Top Dragster going 180.61 mph; Brad Burton, Kirkland, picked up his first divisional win to go with his two national event wins already this season as he beat Steve Wann, Modesto, Calif. in Stock; and Sean Cour, Brush Prairie, Wash., won a squeaker against Tom Nolan, Lacombe, Alb., in Super Stock. Cour went 9.428 to Nolan's 9.454. Rounding out the rest of the of the winner's that celebrated on Sunday night were Dan Patridge, Kennewick, Wash., over Jeff Havens, Yakima, Wash., in the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson class; Randy Beck, Veradale, Wash., in Super Pro to Camille Shaffer, Meridian, Idaho; and Twin Falls, Idaho, resident Mark Kidd, and his '55 Chevy beating Lucas Hull, Middleton, Idaho, in Pro ET. Northwest Division racers head north to Mission Raceway Park, Mission B.C., for their next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, May 25-27. Next up at Firebird is an open test and unlimited grudge racing on Saturday, May 12 followed by their 25th Annual Hot Truck Nationals presented by Bronco Motors May 20. COMPETITION ELIMINATOR Friday BOISE, Idaho – The National Hot Rod Association is at Firebird Raceway for the 42nd Annual Napa Auto Parts Ignitor this weekend and the Northwest Division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. Racing kicked off today but was cut short due to rain, wind and cold temperatures. Qualifying and time trials will resume on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. with Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator making qualifying passes at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Eliminations begin on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. The NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series is also in action with the 250 mph AA/Funny Cars making it an NHRA Double Header Weekend. The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event is one of 43 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Also in competition is the 250 AA/Funny Cars of the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series with a test session on Friday followed by qualifying on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday.
