CORDOVA, Ill. – In the final results from Cordova Dragway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Summer Showdown event presented by Matco Tools it was Randy Meyer, Top Alcohol Dragster, and Dale Brand, Top Alcohol Funny Car, qualifying No. 1 in their respective classes and taking the wins on Saturday night.

Meyer, Spring Hill, Kan., ran consistent 5.30s throughout eliminations with a 5.387 second pass at 260.21 mph in the final against Brandon Booher, Tolono, Ill., for the win and his second of the year.  Meyer beat Christine Chambless, Scott City, Kan., and Dave Hirata, Lowell, Ind., in rounds one and two as he extended his points lead in the NHRA West Central Division.  Booher, who qualified second, posted a 5.470 second lap at 260.26 mph.

 The win for Brand was his first of the year as the Sully, Iowa, racer went 5.668 seconds at 252.80 mph to defeat multi-division champion and veteran racer Vern Moats, Des Moines, Iowa.   Brand was also very consistent in his '10 Monte Carlo with runs of 5.679 seconds and 5.660 seconds in rounds one and two knocking out Scott McVey, Winnipeg, Manitoba, CAN, and Ray Drew, Hales Corner, Wis.

Illinois home state racers David Billingsley and Pat Fitzpatrick each took home trophies with Billingsley, Decatur, Ill., winning in Comp Eliminator over former NHRA National Champion Bruno Massel, Woodridge, Ill., in his '93 Cutlass.  Fitzpatrick, Peoria, Ill., won in Super Comp at 165.54 mph over Jim LaBorde, Hibbing, Minn.

Michael Mans scored his second win of the year in Super Stock ousting Fred Bartoli going 9.488, 136.30 mph in his '00 Firebird. Mans picked up a win at the season opening event at S.R.C.A. Dragstrip in Great Bend, Kan., as was also the division's 2011 JEGS Allstar representative. 

Grimes, Iowa, resident Chris Knudsen joined in on the celebration running down Daryl Bureski, Elgin, Ill., to win Stock Eliminator while Pat Martin, London, Ohio, and John Miller, Waterloo, Iowa, took the Super Gas and Super Street titles respectively.  Martin won in his '27 roadster against Todd Nielsen, Fremont, Neb., and Miller pushed Craig Pfanenstiel to breakout with a 10.889 second run on the 10.90 dial-in.

Other winners included Curtis Spracklin, Omaha, Neb., in the Sportsman Motorcycle class presented by Harley Davidson; Don Speer, Davenport, Iowa, in Top Dragster; and John Scali, Louisville, Ky., in the Jerry Haas Top Sportsman series.

West Central Division racers head to Heartland Park Topeka, Topeka, Kan., for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, August 26-27.

CORDOVA, Ill. – Racing kicked off today for the NHRA West Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Summer Showdown presented by Matco Tools at Cordova Dragway with more than 400 racers in eleven classes expected to battle the quarter mile this weekend. 

250 mph Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars highlight the event, making two qualifying runs today with a final qualifying run on Saturday at noon which will set the 8-car fields for Saturday night's elimination action.   The division's Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series and the Top Dragster Series are also in competition making two qualifying runs today and one more on Saturday prior to eliminations.

Saturday gets underway at 8 a.m. with final time trials and qualifying in all classes with elimination rounds set to begin at 1 p.m.  Tickets for the event are $25 for adults; children 6-12 years old are $5 and kids 5 and under are free with a paid adult.  The track is located 3 miles north of Cordova on Highway 84; 10 miles north of I-80 exit No. 1.  For more information please call Cordova Dragway, (309) 654-2110, or visit www.cordovadrag.com.

CORDOVA, Ill. – The Summer Showdown presented by Matco Tools will once again be hosted by Cordova Dragway Park on Aug. 12-13.  The event is one of six in the NHRA West Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $560,000. The division's Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series, West Central Division Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Cordova Dragway Park open at 7 a.m. both days.  Qualifying and time trials start Friday morning at 10 a.m. and continue Saturday at 8 a.m.  Eliminations will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.  Comp Eliminator, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will have two qualifying sessions on Friday, at 4 and 6:30 p.m., and one on Saturday, at 11 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will qualify at 5 and 8 p.m. Friday and at noon on Saturday.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round of eliminations Saturday at 5 p.m.

Tickets for the Summer Showdown presented by Matco Tools at Cordova Dragway Park are $20 Friday and $25 Saturday.  Children 6 to 12 years old are $5 each day and children 5 and under are admitted free.  The track will also be hosting a test-n-tune session on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 3-7 p.m.  Tickets on Thursday are $10 for adults and $3 for Children.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
: a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by the 2011 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions.  Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 purse from Jegs High Performance.  The 2012 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster.  The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2012 Jegs Allstars during the O'Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals in July, 2012.  Points are based on in-division races only. 

The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions.  Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece.  Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants.  Any 2012 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

AEROMOTIVE LOW QUALIFIER BONUS: A $3,000 bonus fund paid to the low qualifiers in Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and Stock Eliminator at each of the division's six races. The best qualifying driver in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock will each get $200 per event, while the best qualifier in Stock Eliminator will get $100 per race.

JERRY HAAS RACE CARS TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors

in the West Central division's Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $2,750 champions' purse posted by Jerry Haas Race Cars will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

WEST CENTRAL DIVISION TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: The West Central Division Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the West Central division's Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $2,750 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
