WOODBURN, Ore. – In the final results from the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Les Schwab Challenge at Woodburn Dragstrip local runner Joey Severance from Woodburn, Ore., scored his fourth Top Alcohol Dragster win in a row in the NHRA Northwest Division and his sixth overall for the year. 

Severance had a bye run in round 1 but had to earn his wins in both his semifinal and final rounds clocking in at 5.460 seconds at 253.37 mph in the semis against Gregg Lawrence and a 5.336, 264.92 over Ray Martin in the final.  Lawrence, Salem, Ore., went 5.492 at a faster 261.93 mph while Anchorage, Alaska, resident Martin, ran 5.468 seconds at 262.92 mph.  The win should lock up the Lucas Oil Division Championship for Severance.

Sean Bellemeur joined Severance in the winner's circle with his first win of the year in Top Alcohol Funny Car.  Bellemeur, Tustin, Calif., ran consistent 5.70's all day including a 5.728 second lap at 252.38 mph in the final to defeat Clint Thompson, Klamath Falls, Ore., with a 5.830, 252.24.  Bellemeur beat Jim Peters, Molalla, Ore., in round 1 and division points leader Steve Gasparrelli in his semifinal match up.

Jeff Lane, North Bend, Wash., also grabbed is fourth win of the season that will all but lock up the division championship for him.  Lane drove his '11 Cobalt to an 8.012, 155.73 mph win over Brandon Huhtala, Puyallup, Wash.

Robert Matthews and Paul Nero added to their win counts as Matthews, Gig Harbor, Wash., won his third, beating Daryl Hemley, Burley, Wash., in Top Sportsman running 7.599 seconds at 168.03 mph in his '67 Nova.  It was the second win for Nero, Eugene, Ore., in Top Dragster as he held off Shane Molinari, Battleground, Wash., with a 7.160 second pass at 185.75 mph.

The Super Stock and Stock trophies went to Steve Wann and Mark Faul respectively with Wann, Modesto, Calif., driving his '69 Barracuda by Jackie Alley, Eagle, Idaho in 9.816 seconds while Faul, Tacoma, Wash., held off local racer Joe Sorensen of Woodburn, Ore., in his '69 Chevelle.

Other winners included Emmett McKillop, Lynnwood, Wash., with his second win of the year in Super Comp; Lloyd Flatum, Marysville, Wash., over Rod Souza, Eugene, Ore., in Super Gas; Dudley Gee, Canby, Ore., beating Tom Williams, Selah, Wash., in his '66 Mustang; and Joe Jenkins, Richmond, B.C., past Jeff Havens, Yakima, Wash., in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson.

Fact sheet for event resumption, Sept. 16

WHAT: NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Les Schwab Challenge event where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $560,000.  Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  The event is one of six in Northwest Division competition. The division's Top Sportsman Series, Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.  This is the rescheduled event from July 15-17, 2011 that was postponed due to weather and will coincide with the tracks 26th Annual Fall Classic which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, September 17 -18.  Qualifying is complete and the fields are set.

WHERE: Woodburn Dragstrip, Woodburn, Ore.  Track is located at 7730 Highway 219, 1½ miles off I-5 at Woodburn exit 271.

PROGRAMS: NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2011 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions.  Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 purse from Jegs High Performance.  The 2012 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster.  The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2012 Jegs Allstars during the O'Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals in July, 2012.  Points are based on in-division races only. 

The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions.  Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece.  Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants.  Any 2012 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.

TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Northwest Division Top Sportsman Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Northwest division's Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

WOODBURN, Ore. – Mother Nature got the best of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as the Woodburn Dragstrip Les Schwab Challenge event was postponed because of continued rain on Sunday.  The event was moved to Friday, September 16, and will coincide with the track's 26th Annual Fall Classic which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept.17 -18.

Qualifying is complete and the fields are set as local racer Joey Severance, Woodburn, Ore., took the pole in the Top Alcohol Dragster class with a 5.387 second pass at 261.17 mph.  Joining Severance with a No. 1 qualifying spot is Jay Payne, Claremont, Calif., in Top Alcohol Funny Car posting a lap of 5.668, 255.02.  Payne is followed by John Lombardo Jr. in the No. 2 spot with Junction City, Ore., racer Brian Hough landing in the sixth spot in the 8-car field.

NHRA Northwest Division racers will head north to Pacific Raceways for a pair of events before returning to Woodburn.  The first event is the NHRA Northwest Nationals and the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, August 5-7, which is followed by the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Pacific Raceways, August 19-21.

WOODBURN, Ore. – The National Hot Rod Association returned to Woodburn Dragstrip this weekend for Northwest division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Les Schwab Tires Challenge.  Racing kicked off today with qualifying and time trials for more than 300 racers in eleven different classes battling it out on the quarter mile for both championship points and their share of the event purse and contingency payouts.

Local racer and division Top Alcohol Dragster points leader Joey Severance from Woodburn, Ore., will be looking for his second win in a row as he won last month in Spokane, Wash., while last year's Top Alcohol Funny Car Champion Brian Hough, Junction City, Ore., looks to get on track and pick up his first win of the season.

Racers in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Cars will make their initial qualifying run Saturday along with the rest of the classes in competition.  Qualifying and time trials continue on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.   Highlighting Saturday's action will be all three rounds of qualifying for the alcohol classes at noon, 2:30 and 5 p.m.  Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Comp Eliminator will run their final qualifying on Saturday as well, which will set the fields for Sunday's eliminations.

WOODBURN, Ore. – Woodburn Dragstrip will host the Les Schwab Tires Challenge July 15-17, 2011. The event is one of six events in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northwest Division where drivers across the country earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $560,000.  The division's Top Sportsman Series, Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event. 

Gates at Woodburn Dragstrip open at 8 a.m. every day.  Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 1 p.m. and continue Saturday morning at 9 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will have all three qualifying runs on Saturday, at noon, 2:30 and 5 p.m.  Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at noon.

Tickets for the Les Schwab Tires Challenge event are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $25 Sunday.  A three-day pass is $50.  Children ages 6 to 14 are $5 each day and kids 5 and under are admitted free.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
-- a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2011 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions.  Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 purse from Jegs High Performance.  The 2012 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster.  The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2012 Jegs Allstars during the O'Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals in July, 2012.  Points are based on in-division races only. 

The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions.  Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece.  Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants.  Any 2012 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.

TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Northwest Division Top Sportsman Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Northwest division's Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.
