INDIANAPOLIS (May 2, 2011) – Racing wrapped up this weekend at the NHRA Lucas Oil Spring Spectacle of Speed at Lucas Oil Raceway, the first event of the North Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.  Despite uneasy weather predictions, the event was able to conclude with all but two final rounds being run, Top Alcohol Funny Car and Pro Stock Snowmobile.

Marty Thacker took home his first win of the season in Top Alcohol Dragster on Sunday.  The Robinson, Ill., resident faced off against the 2010 National Champion, Bill Reichert, Owosso, Mich., and sealed his victory with a final pass of 5.408 seconds at 263.62 mph.  Another Illinois resident, David Billingsley, went home with a win under his belt.  Billingsley, who lives in Decatur, drove his '93 Cutlass and defeated Charlie Greco, Paoli, Pa., in the Comp finals with a run of 8.895 seconds at 149.58 mph.

The trip from Williamsport, Ind., to Indianapolis was a quick and victorious one for Marion Stephenson who claimed a win in Super Stock.  Stephenson's quicker reaction time and run of 10.395 seconds at 121.67 mph led to his triumph over Rock Running, Lapeer, Mich., and his run of 10.244 seconds at 127.28 mph in the finals.  In Stock, Tommy Mattingly, Louisville, Ky., defeated the 2010 North Central Division Stock champion, Edmond Richardson, Greenbrier, Tenn., in the final run when Richardson left the line a hair too soon.  Super Gas saw another red-light foul in the finals when Pat Martin, London, Ohio, took off too soon and left the victory in the hands of Rusty Cook, Cynthiana, Ky.

Super Comp held a race in the finals between Jason Kenny, Kutztown, Pa., and Brian Shockley, Lebanon, Ind.  In the end, Kenny's final run for 8.906 seconds at 165.62 mph was enough to defeat Shockley's 8.895 second run at 164.99 mph.  In a race of the classic cars in Super Street, Scotty Rienschield drove his '69 Corvette against Roger Weaver's '67 Mustang.  Rienschield, Sunman, Ind., went home with the win after a run of 10.896 seconds at 146.88 mph against Weaver, Indianapolis, and his run of 10.869 seconds at 134.98 mph.

Mike Coughlin, Delaware, Ohio, earned his first victory of the season in Top Sportsman when he defeated Billy Thoman, Mt. Washington, Ky., in the final pass.  Coughlin drove his '06 Cobalt to a 6.760 second, 201.19 mph win.  In Top Dragster, Lynn Ellison, Central City, Ky., defeated Ricky Adkins, Milan, Mich., when Adkins red-lighted.

Friday's racing action also featured DRAW/RFC Super Shootouts presented by Moser Engineering.  Shanna Bell, Fishers, Ind., took home the win in the Super Comp Shootout while Kenneth LaFollette, Sarahsville, Ohio, won in the Super Gas Shootout.  In the Super Street Shootout, Dewey Boggs, Lancaster, Ohio, went home with the win.

The finals of Top Alcohol Funny Car and Pro Stock Snowmobile eliminations will be completed at the second event of the North Central divisions Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series schedule at Summit Motorsports Park where Des Plaines, Ill., resident, Freed Hagen, Jr., will face off against the 2010 National Champion, Morganville, N.J. resident, Frank Manzo.
