BELLE ROSE, La. (September 20, 2009) – In the final results from No Problem Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Cajun Sportsman Challenge it was Brandon Lewis and Tony Bartone posting wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car.
The win gives Lewis the point's lead in the NHRA South Central Division over Malcolm Wahle who lost to David Brounkowski in round 2 setting up the final between Lewis and Brounkoski. Lewis ran strong all weekend with a 5.358 second, 271.62 mph pass to Brounkowski's tire smoking 7.507.
The Funny Car final was a match up of the No. 1 and No. 2 qualifiers with Bartone (No. 2) leaving Steve Harker, Gainesville, Ga., right off the line with a 5.688 second lap at 252.05 mph. Like Brounkowski, Harker smoked the tires and had no chance against Bartone.
A trio of Louisiana racers also scored wins this weekend with Brandon Chauvin, Gonzales, La., leading the group as he held off Howard Mc Cullar, McAlester, Okla., in the division's Sunset RaceCraft Top Sportsman class. Chauvin ran 6.839 seconds at 196.99 mph. Keith Raftery, Lake Charles, La., and Casey Allemand, Raceland, La., won in TCI Comp Cams Top Sportsman and in Stock Eliminator respectively. Raftery drove his '07 GTO passed Bob Gulitti, Tombell, Texas, with a lap of 6.905 seconds at 184.45 mph and Allemand beat former division champion Kevin Helms in his '95 Firebird.
Lisa Bennett made sure the female contingent was not shut out in taking the trophy in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson. Bennett of Lucas, Texas, won a close one over Ben Brown, Irving, Texas, 8.022, 165.60 to Brown's 8.054, 163.69.
Former NHRA National Champion Jimmy DeFrank, Thousand Oaks, Calif., made the long trip worth wild in beating Gary Emmons, Friendswood, Texas, in Super Stock while Chase Williams, Carthage, Texas, won over Bruno Massel, Woodbridge, Ill., in Comp Eliminator.
Others winning this weekend were Tommy Phillips, Forney, Texas, in Super Comp; Jim Cappiello, Willis, Texas, in Super Gas; and Ray Todd, Friendswood, Texas, in Super Street.
South Central Division racers head to Thunder Valley Raceway Park, Noble, Okla., for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, Oct. 23-25.

BELLE ROSE, La. (September 19, 2009) – In the final rounds of qualifying for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Cajun Sportsman Challenge it was Brandon Lewis and Steve Harker taking the No. 1 qualifying positions. Racers are vying for championship points as well as a share of the nearly $200,000 purse in cash and contingency awards.
Lewis, Broken Arrow, Okla., clicked off a 5.250 second run at 274.50 mph in his Top Alcohol Dragster and is followed by Michael Manners, Willis, Texas, and Darryl Hitchman, Greenville, Texas, in second and third respectively.
Defending NHRA South Central Division Top Alcohol Funny Car Champion Harker of Gainesville, Ga., put his '06 Monte Carlo funny car on top with a 5.657 second, 252.76 mph run. Harker has former NHRA National Champion Tony Bartone, Long Island, N.Y., right on his heals at 5.668, 253.71 and Chris Foster, Davenport, Iowa, in third at 5.821, 248.29.
Michael Kile and Joey Tanksley held on to their top qualifying positions from Friday with Kile, West Lake, La., posting a run of 6.150 seconds at 221.78 mph in the division's TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster class. Kile is followed by Jimmy Lewis, Forney, Texas, and Brandon Chauvin, Gonzales, La., in second and third.
Tanksley, a former division champion out of Greenwell Springs, La., leads the Comp Eliminator field over Raymond Martin, Mt Belvieu, Texas, and Adam Hickey, Hammond, La.
Keith Raftery, Lake Charles, La., jumped to the top of the Sunset RaceCraft Top Sportsman class with a lap of 6.481 seconds, 214.52 mph with Joseph Mohana, Bourg, La., in the No. 2 spot in his '57 Chevy at 6.597, 208.49.
Also posting pole positions this weekend were Jeff Dona, Grodonville, Mo., in Super Stock; Kent LaPorte, Lafeyette, La., in Stock, and Peter Pollet, Paulina, La., in the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson.
Racing continues Sunday at No Problem Raceway. Gates open at 8 a.m. with racing to begin at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car run round one at noon.

BELLE ROSE, La. (September 18, 2009) – In the first rounds of qualifying at No Problem Raceway and the Cajun Sportsman Challenge NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Michael Manners, Willis, Texas, and Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Tony Bartone, Long Island City, N.Y. took the No. 1 qualifying positions in their classes.
Manners outran the field with a pass of 5.356 seconds at 269.56 mph to lead the class by more than a tenth of a second. Manners is looking for his first win of the year having three final round appearances in his last three outings. Darryl Hitchman, Greenville, Texas, and Brandon Pierce, Moore, Okla., are 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Bartone made a 5.672-second, 252.76 mph run to take the pole in his '09 Mustang and is followed by Gainesville, Ga., racer Steve Harker. Bartone is currently fifth in the national point's standings while Harker sits in third and is leading the South Central Division points.
Homestate Louisiana racers lead in three other classes with Joey Tanksley of Greenwell Springs, La., on top in Comp Eliminator. Bourg, La., resident Joseph Mohana is No. 1 in the Sunset RaceCraft Top Sportsman class with Keith Haney, Broken Arrow, Okla. in second and Keith Raftery, Lake Charles, La., in third. And Michel Kile, Westlake, La., and Brandon Chauvin, Gonzales, La., are one and two in the TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster category.
Top qualifiers in other classes are Jeff Colvert, Arkadelphia, Ark., in Super Stock and David Buckner, New Waverly, Texas, in Stock.

BELLE ROSE, La. – NHRA South Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors will head to No Problem Raceway for the Cajun Sportsman Challenge, September 18-20, for the fifth of six races in the region. The event will feature drivers in eight categories, including 250 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, competing for points leading to divisional and national championships. The division's Sunset RaceCraft Top Sportsman Series, TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also be run in conjunction with the event.
Malcolm Wahle of Claremore, Okla., is leading the division's Top Alcohol Dragster points on the strength of two final-round appearances. He scored the win at the division's season opener at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas, and was runner-up at the first of two races at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas. Shayne Lawson, however, is just 10 points off the pace. The Broken Arrow, Okla., racer got a jump on the season by attending out-of-division events in Bradenton, Fla., and Gainesville, Fla. Although he suffered a first-round loss in Bradenton, he earned the win in Gainesville. In South Central division competition he went to the semis at the Motorplex and at Houston Raceway Park.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car competition, Kennedale, Texas's Kebin Kinsley leads the charge. Kinsley started the year with a runner-up finish at the Motorplex and won the second race at Houston Raceway Park. At the first Baytown event he went to the semifinals. Kinsley has a 32-point lead over second place racer Steve Burk. Burk, a resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, won the first Baytown event and went to the semis at the second. At the season opener he was ousted in the first round.
Defending division Stock Eliminator champion Jarrod Garnier of Labadieville, La., is leading the point standings over Sam Lusco Jr. of Houma, La. In third and fourth place, respectively, are Donaldsonville, La., residents Jimmy Hidalgo and Jimmy Hidalgo Jr. Just one point separates the father/son duo.
Gates at No Problem Raceway will open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start at 9 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday morning at 9. Racers in Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Comp Eliminator will qualify at noon and 4 p.m. on Friday and at noon and 5 p.m. Saturday. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car competitors will have one qualifying session on Friday, at 6 p.m., and two on Saturday, at 2 and 6 p.m. Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at noon.
Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at No Problem Raceway are $20 each day. A three-day pass is $55. Children 11 years old and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.
JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2010 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2010 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.
The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Winners in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will each earn $5,000. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.
Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2010 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.
SUNSET RACECRAFT Top Sportsman Series: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,000 and the runner-up will get $500. Top Sportsman racers may run the seven South Central Division Lucas Oil events as well as three Lucas Oil Series races in the other NHRA divisions.
TCI COMP CAMS TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Dragster class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500 and the runner-up will get $800.
NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
