Sunday

HEBRON, Ohio. (July 26, 2009) - Eliminations are complete from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event held at National Trail Raceway. Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Marty Thacker of Robinson, Ill., and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Chris Foster from Davenport, Iowa, took home the hardware. This event concludes the fifth of six in North Central division competition in which racers earn points towards divisional and national championships.

Thacker, last year's Top Alcohol Dragster divisional champ, knocked out the current points leader Bill Reichert, Owosso, Mich., in the first round on his way to the winner's circle. In the final, he posted a perfect light and ran a 5.434 second, 262.85 mph pass to beat Ken Perry from Richmond Hill, Ont., to pick up the holeshot win. This is Thacker's first victory of the season.

Foster is making a run for the points lead by picking up his second win of the year. The No.1 qualifier of the weekend posted a 5.748 second, 249.03 mph lap to eliminate Andy Bohl of Racine, Wis., in the money round.

Other top winners included Bruno Massel of Woodbridge, Ill., who picked up his third win of the season in Comp Eliminator; Gene McBean, Chardon, Ohio, was victorious in Super Stock; and Stock Eliminator honors went to Jason McCormack from Oxford, Mich. James Antonette out of Valley Stream, N.Y., captured the top spot in Super Comp; Larry Bernshausen, Manito, Ill., won the Super Gas class, and Josh VanHorne, Orient, Ohio, went to the Super Street winner's circle.

The Dart Top Sportsman honors went to Thomas Turner Jr., Naples, Fla., and the Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series title went to Rick Forish, New Palestine, Ind.

The next North Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event is at Beech Bend Raceway Park. The race is slated for August 28-30.

Saturday

HEBRON, Ohio. (July 25, 2009)  Final qualifying has been postponed at National Trail Raceway. Rain began falling during Super Stock qualifying earlier today and has been off and on all day. The decision was made to set the fields in Stock, Super Stock and all the super classes.

Racing will begin at 8:30 AM Sunday morning with Super Street eliminations. The alcohol classes, Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp will have one more round of qualifying at 10:30 in the morning with eliminations to follow.


Friday

HEBRON, Ohio. (July 24, 2009) – The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series makes its fifth appearance of North Central competition at National Trail Raceway this weekend. With two home divisional races left on the schedule, drivers are doing all they can to grab last minute points that lead to divisional and national championships.  With the first day of qualifying in the books, Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Mike Kosky of Cuddy, Pa., and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Chris Foster of Davenport, Iowa took the pole.  Local boy and fan favorite John Coughlin, Delaware, Ohio, leads the pack in Super Stock.

Kosky currently holds second place of the Northeast division, who is still looking for his first win of the season.  He posted a
5.404 second, 259.81 mph pass to take the lead with heavy hitters Marty Thacker, Robinson, Ill., and Bill Reichert, Owosso, Mich., sitting in second and third respectively.  Sidelined Funny Car driver Tommy Johnson Jr. of Avon, Ind., currently sits outside of the qualifying class.

The Top Alcohol Funny Car's No.1 spot was awarded to Foster for laying down a 5.714 seconds 249.53 mph pass. He has ran at two divisionals this year in which he picked up the win at Route 66 Raceway last month.  Tony Bartone of Long Island City, N.Y., qualified in the second seed going into Saturday.

Other top qualifiers include
Bruno Massel, Woodbridge, Ill., in Comp Eliminator; Super Stock racer Coughlin in his JEGS Cobalt; and Dave Campolito, Salem, Ohio, in Stock. Running in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, Jeffrey Barker, Warner-Robins, Ga., took the No.1 spot in the Top Sportsman class while Mark Harmon of Sunman, Ind., grabbed the pole in the Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series.

HEBRON, Ohio – NHRA's North Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series will continue the season at National Trail Raceway, July 24-26.  The race is the fifth of six in the region and will feature drivers in eight classes, including 250 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, competing for points leading to divisional and national championships.  The division's Dart Top Sportsman Series and Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

With three wins and a runner-up finish in five races, Bill Reichert is leading in the division's Top Alcohol Dragster class.  The Owosso, Mich., racer won the division's season opener at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis as well as out-of-division races in Richmond, Va., and Reading, Pa.  He suffered a first-round loss at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, but made a final-round appearance at the division event at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill.  Ken Perry, Richmond Hill, Ont., is in second place in the point standings after scoring the win in Norwalk and reaching the semis in Indianapolis and Joliet.

Demotte, Ind., racer Mick Snyder is leading the division's Top Alcohol Funny Car points.  The former NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League competitor started the year at an out-of-division race in Cecil, Ga., where he went to the semis.  He was runner-up in Indianapolis before losing in round-one in Norwalk.  In Joliet, Snyder rebounded for a runner-up finish.  Bobby Martin, Beaver Falls, Pa., is nipping at Snyder's heels after beating him at O'Reilly Raceway Park.  Martin went to the semis in Norwalk and lost in the first round in Joliet.

In Stock Eliminator, former division and national champion Randy Wilkes of Zanesville has been at the top of the standings.  And another local favorite, John Coughlin of Delaware has been leading the Top Dragster class.

Gates at National Trail Raceway open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start Friday morning at 10 and continue Saturday at 9 a.m.  Racers in Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator will have one qualifying run on Friday, starting at 3 p.m., and two on Saturday, beginning at 11:30 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car competitors will qualify Friday, at 5 p.m., and Saturday, at 1 and 5 p.m.  Eliminations start Sunday at 8:30 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 1 p.m.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at National Trail Raceway are $10 Friday, $15 Saturday and $15 Sunday.  Children 6 to 12 years old are $5 each day and kids 5 and under are admitted free.  Parking is $5.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: A $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2009 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions.  Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

 SPITZER RACE CARS LOW QUALIFIER BONUS: A $7,000 bonus fund from Spitzer Race Cars will pay low qualifiers in the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car classes $500 at each of the North Central division's races where the categories are contested.  There will also be a year-end bonus of $1,000 to be awarded to the driver in each class with the most points earned through qualifying position at each of the events.

COAN ENGINEERING LOW QUALIFIER BONUS: A $3,000 bonus fund from Coan will pay the low qualifiers in the Competition and Super Stock classes $200 and the low qualifier in Stock class $100 at each of the North Central division's six races.

COMPETITION ELIMINATOR BONUS:  A $3,600 per event non-contingent round money bonus is awarded to Competition qualifiers by the following companies:  C-Tech Aluminum Cabinets, Steve Schmidt Competition Engines, Goodyear Competition Tires West, Rick Watters Racing Engines, Liberty Gears, Browell Bellhousing, Jim Butner Auto, Wright Tool, Bruno's Automotive, Bullet Racing Cams, Dewco and C&M Engineering.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance.  The 2010 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster.  The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2010 Jegs Allstars.  Points are based on in-division races only. 

The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions.  Winners in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will each earn $5,000.  Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece.  Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants.  Any 2010 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

Top Sportsman Class: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships and a share in the $4,400 event purse as well as points leading to a divisional championship.  Top Sportsman racers may earn points at the six North Central Division Lucas Oil events as well as the NHRA Doorslammer National Open and NHRA Jegs Northern SPORTSnationals.  Points may also be earned at other NHRA division Top Sportsman series events.

The North Central Division Dart Top Sportsman year-end champion will earn $3,000, No. 2 points finisher will receive $1,000 and the third place competitor will earn $500.

SPITZER RACE CARS TOP DRAGSTER CLASS: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster class are vying for division championships and a share in the $3,200 event purse as well as points leading to a divisional championship.  Top Dragster racers may earn points at the six North Central Division Lucas Oil events as well as the NHRA Jegs Northern SPORTSnationals.  Points may also be earned at other NHRA division Top Sportsman series events.

The North Central Division Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster year-end champion will earn $3,000, No. 2 points finisher will receive $1,000 and the third place competitor will earn $500.
