Saturday

TULSA, Okla.- Champions were crowned in Tulsa, Okla., yesterday for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, in the NHRA's South Central Division at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park. The audience was treated to Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series.

In both alcohol classes, California drivers brought home victories. In TAD, Chris Demke of Tujunga, Calif., edged out Gord Gingles, who made the trek from Winnipeg, Manit. Demke ran 5.281 seconds, 266.85 mph to defeat Gingles, 5.307 seconds, 270.75 mph. In the TAFC final, John Lombardo Brea, Calif., handily defeated Lance Van Hauen of Reinbeck, Iowa. Lombardo hit 5.608 seconds, 266.85 mph defeating Van Hauen, 5.755 seconds, 250.60 mph.

Fans at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park saw fellow Oklahoma natives pull in gold in their respective classes. Kevin Self, Caddo, Okla., ran 7.866, 166.25 to smoke Duane Robison, Gardner, Kan., 8.478, 122.46 in Comp Eliminator. In the Super Comp class, Vernon Rowland, Blanchard, Okla., hit 8.895, 171.73 defeating Todd Piper, Wamego, Kan., who fouled at the starting line. And in the Super Street class, Ricky Sellers, Lawton, Okla., '66 Nova, 10.918, 129.12 beat Rick Huffman, Burleson, Texas, '69 Camaro, 10.905, 147.34.

The other drivers visiting the winner's circle were former NHRA Lucas Oil world champion Jonathan Womack, Houston, Texas, in Super Stock; Dean Oliver, Stuttgart, Ark., in Stock Eliminator; Travis Salter, Baytown, Texas, in Super Gas; Doug Woody, Independence, Mo., in the Sunset Performance Top Sportsman; and Aaron Stanfield, Bossier City, La., in KPE Top Dragster.

Fans also enjoyed action in the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series with Top Fuel Harley rider Brian Jernigan, Cypress, Texas, posting a 7.553 second, 191.46 mph pass to upend Kevin Boyer, Edmonton, Alb., 8.203 seconds, 160.14 mph. In Sportsman Motorcycle presented By Harley-Davidson, Patrick Roetto, Wichita, Kan., 9.587, 136.70  beat Robert Sanders, Cypress, Texas, 9.070, 140.40.

TULSA, Okla. – Racing kicked off today for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Central Region event at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park for the fourth of six in the NHRA South Central Division where drivers will earn points leading to national, regional and divisional championships

The 270 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car classes highlight the event making a pair of qualifying runs today which set their fields for Saturday night featuring three rounds of eliminations for the alcohol classes.

Also in action this weekend is the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series featuring the Top Fuel Harley and Pro Fuel Harley classes. The Harley-Davidson classes will make a pair of qualifying runs on Friday and run all rounds of eliminations on Saturday as well.

The division's Sunset Performance Top Sportsman and KPE Top Dragster classes also made a pair of runs and will make a final qualifying pass on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. followed by rounds 1 and 2 of eliminations beginning at 3 p.m. Super Stock, Super Gas and the rest of the classes in competition ran qualifying and time trials today, which will continue tomorrow, followed by early rounds of eliminations and final eliminations on Sunday.

Gates open at 8 a.m. on Saturday with final qualifying and time trials set to begin at 10:00 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars will run elimination rounds at 4, 7, and 9 p.m. followed by their winner's circle celebration.  

Sunday kicks off at 8 a.m. as eliminations continue. Admission for the event is $20 each day for adults and children 12 and under are free with a paid adult. TULSA, Okla. - NHRA South Central Division arrives at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park on June 10-12. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division's Sunset Performance Top Sportsman Series, KPE Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also be run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park open at 8 a.m. each day. Time trials are 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 2 and 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator start eliminations on Saturday at 3 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify twice on Friday at 5 and 8 p.m. and eliminations Saturday at 4, 7 and 9 p.m. Eliminations resume Sunday for the remaining classes.

Tickets for Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park are $20 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 12 and under are free with paid adult.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2016 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2016 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2016 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

SUNSET PERFORMANCE TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus  

of $1,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500. Top Sportsman racers may run the six South Central Division Lucas Oil events as well as three Lucas Oil Series races in the other NHRA divisions.

KPE TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Dragster class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500.

MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT: Drivers who compete in seven NHRA sportsman classes will be eligible to participate in the Moser Sportsman Shootout. Moser Engineering Sportsman Shootout qualifying points will be earned by competitors in Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman at each South Central Division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. The South Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout will be held at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Texas Motorplex in Dallas, with a posted purse of $15,000, with the winner taking home up to $5,000.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
