Sunday

HEBRON, Ohio - North Central Division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Buckeye Fuel Wars came to National Trail Raceway just outside Columbus, Ohio over the weekend with Chris Demke and Paul Noakes scoring prominent wins.

Demke, Tujunga, Calif., increased his national champion point lead by taking out Mia Tedesco, Pittsburgh, Pa., in Top Alcohol Dragster. Demke had a small edge at the green and lead all the way recording a lap of 5.388 seconds at 269.83 mph to Tedesco's 5.425 at 261.98. This was Demke's 24th divisional win, in 43 final round appearances, and his second this year. Demke is in a battle for the Lucas Oil National Championship and leads Tedesco by 106 points at the top spot.

In the final of Top Alcohol Funny Car, Paul Noakes laid down a pass of 5.835 seconds at 247.97 mph over Chris Foster, Davenport, Iowa. This win adds to Noakes regional point total for the lead in the North Central Division.

The Comp Eliminator final went to David Rampy, Piedmont, Ala. Rampy left first with a great light and secured the win over Greg Kamplain, Brownsburg, Ind., with a margin of victory of 0.0550 seconds. This win marks Rampy's 46th divisional victory, with 31 of them in Competition Eliminator.

In Super Stock there was a heads up battle in the final round. Todd Frantz, Louisville, Ky., went 9.815 seconds at 130.02 mph and had about three tenths advantage over Brianna Kelly, Fairfield, Ohio, who recorded a lap of 10.046 seconds at 130.90 mph. This was Frantz's fourth divisional win and his third in Super Stock.

Super Gas had a great final round matchup, with Steve Hoyt, Fort Wayne, Ind., who was in the top ten nationally last year, and Edmond Richardson, Greenbier, Tenn., who has multiple wins in multiple categories. Richardson had a small advantage at the green, but gave up the stripe and Hoyt slipped by for the win. Hoyt's margin of victory was 0.0220 seconds, approximately 5 feet. This is Hoyt's sixth divisional win, fourth in Super Gas.

Austin Richardson, Greenbrier, Tenn., son of Edmond Richardson, put together a 0.016 package to secure the win in Stock Eliminator. This is his second divisional win in Stock Eliminator, and is a perfect two-for-two in final rounds, having won in Indianapolis already this year.

Other racers visiting the winners circle were Kendra Rienschield, Brookville, Ind., who forced Jeremy Mason, Waco, Ky. into a breakout to earn the Super Comp trophy; and Marsha Mc Fall, Tipp City, Ohio, took her first win in Super Street over Rudy Matthews, Ohio City, Ohio. Jerry Albert, Avon, Ohio, walked away with a trophy in Top Sportsman; Mike Trauth, Alexandria, Ky., beat out Ashely Tidrick, Logansport, Ind. in Top Dragster; and in Junior Dragster Logan Galbraith, Indianapolis, beat out Marissa Bay, Blacklick, Ohio with a margin of victory of .0670 seconds.
