Sunday

BELLE ROSE, La. – Austin Williams took home a pair of trophies scoring the double at this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, La. Louisiana racers Craig Bourgeois and Slate Cummings also won adding to their impressive collection of NHRA Wally trophies.

Williams, Burleson, Texas, faced off with Jackson Collier, West Monroe, La., in a dead heat for the Super Comp final round. Both drivers had .022 second reaction times then clocked in at 8.881 seconds as Williams turned on the win light. Williams, who has a pair of wins early this year winning the division opener in Baytown, Texas, and the recent national event in Topeka, Kan., also advanced to the final in Stock where he meet up with Rusty Hall. Williams covered the quarter mile in 11.14 seconds on his 11.13 dial with his '72 Duster to hold off the quicker Hall running 10.279 in his '67 Shelby Mustang.

Bourgeois, Metarie, La., lined up with Kevin Self for the Comp Eliminator trophy with Self, Caddo, Okla., taking the early lead only to watched Bourgeois drive by with a 6.987 second lap at 174.80 mph in his nostalgia dragster to Self's 7.788, 167.43 in his '32 roadster.

Cummings, who won earlier this year in Atlanta, drove passed Jerry Emmons, Pasadena, Texas, in Super Stock with an 8.956, 136.50 run to Emmons' 9.821, 135.89. Both drivers have multiple wins in the Lucas Oil Series at both the divisional and national levels.

In the KPE Top Dragster class, it was Brandon Chauvin who joined Bourgeois and Cummings as home state winners. The Gonzales, La., racer defeated Pete Vicari, Harvey, La., who was out first with the holeshot but could not hold on as Chauvin went 6.483 at 205.63 mph for the win.

Scooter Choate and Bryan Sandlin won in the Super Gas and Super Street classes respectively. Choate, Hubbard, Texas, took a close one over Vernon Rowland, Blanchard, Okla., as both drivers had good reaction times (.004 to a .009) and both running 9.906 on the 9.90 index. Sandlin, Baytown, Texas, grabbed his second win of the year on a holeshot over John Leibhom, Tomball, Texas. Sandlin went 10.946, 146.04 in his '78 Camaro to Leibhom's 10.923, 124.80 in his '68 Camaro.

Rounding out the winners were Jimmy Lewis in the Sunset Performance Top Sportsman category and Derek Dorsey in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson. Lewis, out of Forney, Texas, took the easy win at 7.265, 163.16 as Jim Thorp, Mertan, Texas, was off the throttle slowing to a 9.214, 98.79 mph. Dorsey, Kingswood, Texas, went 8.977 seconds at 143.00 mph to beat Robert Saunders, Cypress, Texas, 9.624, 135.31.

NHRA South Central division racers have a bit of a break before heading to Thunder Road Raceway Park, Gilliam, La., Sept. 18-20 for their next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.

BELLE ROSE, La. – Fields were set today for all classes at No Problem Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as racers in nine different classes will kick off eliminations on Sunday morning.

Gates open on Sunday at 8 a.m. with racing set to begin at 9 a.m., and continuing throughout the day, culminating with the winner's circle celebration.

BELLE ROSE, La. – NHRA South Central division racers are back in action for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at No Problem Raceway as they move into the second half of their season with nine classes of competition.   

Today's action also included round one of qualifying for racers in the Sunset Performance Top Sportsman, Comp Eliminator and the KPE Top Dragster classes.  The three classes will make a pair of qualifying hits tomorrow at noon and 4 p.m. that will set their fields for Sunday's eliminations.  Qualifying and time trials for the remaining NHRA Lucas Oil classes will also continue on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

BELLE ROSE, La. – NHRA South Central Division returns to No Problem Raceway on July 17-19. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division's Sunset Performance Top Sportsman Series, KPE Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also be run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at No Problem Raceway will open at 8 a.m. on each day. Qualifying starts at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator qualify on Friday at 3 p.m. and continue Saturday at noon and 4 p.m. Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at No Problem Raceway are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 10 years old and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

 BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2015 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2016 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2016 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2016 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

Sunset Performance Top Sportsman Series: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500. Top Sportsman racers may run the six South Central Division Lucas Oil events as well as three Lucas Oil Series races in the other NHRA divisions.

KPE TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Dragster class are vying for division championships. The top points finisher will earn a year-end bonus of $1,500, the runner-up will get $1000 and the third place finisher will receive $500.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
