CHANDLER, Ariz. – Joey Severance and Shane Westerfield both came from the No. 2 qualifying position to take the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

Severance, Woodburn, Ore., took out Aaron Olivarez and Shaw Cowie in rounds one and two, then recorded low elapsed time of the event on his final round single as No. 1 qualifier Chris Demke had to shut off after the burn out with mechanical problems. Severance clocked in at 5.239 seconds at 271.90 mph for the win and his 17th trophy in the Lucas Oil Regional Series. Demke, Tujunga, Calif., defeated Ross Stickler, Gilbert, Ariz., and Johnny Ahten, Santa Clarita, Calif., in his early rounds.

In a great Funny Car final, Westerfield, Anaheim, Calif., took the hole shot win over veteran racer Jay Payne, Claremont, Calif. Westerfield was nearly a tenth of a second quicker off the line and ran his quickest pass of the weekend to hold off the quicker Payne in 5.603 seconds, 260.01 mph to Payne's 5.597, 264.03. The win was Westerfield's third regional as he ousted Brian Hough, Junction City, Utah, and Terry Ruckman, Grand Junction, Colo., on his way to the final.

Four racers captured their first Lucas Oil divisional event win as Andrew Durham, Monrovia, Calif., led the way with a win in Super Stock over Mike Graham, Tempe, Ariz. Graham had the early lead but Durham ran him down and forced him to breakout. Durham clocked in at 9.216, 146 mph in his '11 Challenger.

Bobby Mirizio, Perter Zak, and David Kiesel also notched their first wins as Mirizio, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., beat Steve Williams in Super Comp; Zak knock out Williams, who was looking for the double-up, in Super Gas; and Kiesel won over Robert Pancer in Super Street.
