DINWIDDIE, Va. –

In the final results from Virginia Motorsports Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Jeff Veale, Stoney Creek, Ont., and Kris Hool, Casper, Wyo., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively. The Power in the Park event marked the first Northeast Regional Event of the year.

Veale, worked his way through the field and ran 5.33 seconds at 274.50 mph in his final round victory over Jackie Fricke, Flemington, N.J., who clocked in at 7.762 seconds, 129.14 mph. Veale and Fricke were both looking for their first Top Alcohol Dragster career win. Both drivers nearly had the same identical reaction times off the line, but Fricke smoked the tires and Veale took his Dragster down the track for his first win.

Kris Hool faced off against Steve Harker, Gainesville, Ga., and posted a winning run of 5.754 seconds, 259.21 mph in his 2010 Monte Carlo. Steve Harker shook off the line and slowed to a 17.241 second, 57.54 mph lap for his runner up finish.

In the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series, Tommy Grimes, Winston Salem, N.C., was the winner in Top Fuel Harley with a run of 6.368 seconds, 233.64 mph on his 2014 Nitro Harley, with a victory over Larry Drums Brancaccio, Nutley, N.J., who launched and broke at the starting line. In Pro Fuel Harley, Johnny Vickers, Millers Creek, N.C., ran 7.269 seconds at 180.91 mph in his win over Dale Nilles, Wilkesboro, N.C., who was clocked at 7.316 seconds at 169.64 mph. Nilles had the starting line advantage but Vickers was quicker down the track to receive the win.

Other racers visiting the winner's circle this weekend were Steve Szupka, Willow Grove, Pa, in Comp Eliminator; Bob Cupp, Alexandria, Va., in Super Stock; Amanda Boicesco, Warminster, Pa, in Super Comp; Cameron Manuel, Winston Salem, N.C., in Super Gas; and Shawn Fricke, Flemington, N.J., in Super Street. In the division's Top Sportsman class it was Michael Daniele, Wantagh, N.Y., taking the win while Rick Bell, Merrimack N.H., won in Top Dragster. Bruce Croneberger III, Cressona, Pa.,in Street Pro Harley; Charley Douglas, Staunton, Va., in Hot Street Harley; William Rowe Jr., Hellertown, Pa., in Pro Gas Harley; Nate Carnahan, Powhatan, Va., in SEP Harley and David Cartwright, Evansville, Ind., in Draggin' Bagger.

Many of the racers in competition this past weekend will head south to Charlotte, N.C. for the 5th Annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, April 11-13. Up next for the Northeast Division Lucas Oil Series is Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa, May 23-25.

The NHRA Northeast Division is at Virginia Motorsports Park for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Power in the Park this weekend featuring 260 mph Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars along with Top Fuel Harleys and the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series.

This weekend's event is one of seven in the division and one of 44 that take place throughout the year from coast to coast with over 400 of the best racers from the region looking for valuable points leading toward national, regional and divisional championships.

Racers made qualifying and time trial runs today that also included the division's MXI/Magnaflux Top Sportsman and Top Dragster which made a pair of qualifying passes and will have a final qualifying run on Saturday followed by eliminations. The Top Alcohol teams will run elimination rounds on Saturday at 3, 5 and 7 p.m.

Top Fuel and Pro Fuel Harley set their fields today with eliminations set to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

PETERSBURG, Va. - Power in the Park at Virginia Motorsports Park will be the first of seven events in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northeast Division on April 4-5.
The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division's MXI/Magnaflux Top Sportsman and Top Dragster Series' presented by Select Performance and Pro Stock Snowmobile will also run in conjunction with the event along with the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series.

Gates at Virginia Motorsports Park open at 7:30 a.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday. Qualifying and time trials start at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. First round eliminations for Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Comp Eliminator are at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify Friday at 1 and 5 p.m. Eliminations for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car start Saturday at 3 p.m. Harley-Davidson qualifying is at 2 & 6 p.m. on Friday with eliminations beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND:
a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2014 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from JEGS High Performance. The 2014 JEGS Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2014 JEGS Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning regional and division teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runner-ups in all categories will earn $2,000 each. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, JEGS High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to JEGS Allstars participants. Any 2014 JEGS Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.
