Saturday, Aept. 10

RISING SUN, Md. – The NHRA Northeast Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event from Cecil County Dragway was completed this past weekend in conjunction with the Lucas Oil event at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.  The event at Cecil County in Rising Sun, Md., was postponed from its originally scheduled date in August due to weather.

When it all wrapped up, it was Mike Kosky and Frank Manzo taking wins in the alcohol classes while Shane Carr took home a pair of trophies covering the fields in both the Super Stock and the Super Comp classes.  Kosky, Cuddy, Pa., outran Richard Bourke in the Top Alcohol Dragster final posting a 5.402 second lap at 263.67 mph to Bourke of Old Tappan, N.J., trailing with a 5.436 second time at 260.91 mph.       

Manzo continued his winning ways with John Anderika as the latest victim.  Manzo, Morganville, N.J., drove his '10 Monte Carlo Top Alcohol Funny Car to the win clocking in at 263.51 mph in 5.517 seconds. Anderika covered the quarter mile in 5.791 seconds at 146.53 mph.

Williamstown, N.J., racer Carr grabbed a unusual double win defeating Warren Ferrese, Moscow, Pa., in the Super Comp final then moved on to face Joe Santangelo, Marlborough, Conn., in the final of Super Stock where he posted a lap of 8.598 seconds in his '08 Cobalt for the win.

Series hitter Sal Biondo, Maspeth, N.Y., held off the Comp Eliminator continent taking the win over recent JEGS Allstar Champion Frank Aragona Jr., Freehold, N.J., and Jim Boudreau joined in on the winners in Stock as he defeated Lee Zane.   Boudreau, Tewsbury, Mass., posted a time of 10.255 seconds, 126.03 mph in his '69 Camaro.

Rounding out the winners were Matt Schurman, Green Brook, N.J., over Tom Stalba, Hammontown, N.J., in Super Gas; Tom Rakowski, Phoenixville, Pa., over Judith Perrino, Middletown, N.Y., in Super Street; and Tiina Duncanson, Acton, Ont., who beat Scott March, Highland, N.Y., in Pro Stock Snowmobile.

 


Sunday

RISING SUN, Md. – The NHRA Northeast Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series battled Mother nature and persistent rain showers throughout the weekend before NHRA and track Officials had to pull the plug with a handful of elimination rounds left in competition for the Northeast Shootout event. 

Most of the classes will be completed at the upcoming Lucas Oil series event at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Sept. 9-11 including Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car which completed just one round of competition leaving both the semifinal and final rounds to be completed.  In the dragster class, Karen Stalba outran division point's leader Daniel Page in round one and looks to jump ahead of page currently sitting in the No. 2 spot just 32 points behind.  Also advancing were Dan Mercier, Richard Bourke, and Mike Kosky.

The Funny Car contingent saw Frank Manzo, John Anderika, Dan Pomponio, and Fred Tigges advance past the first round.

The divisions MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster by Select Performance and Speed Shop at Atco Top Sportsman by Select Performance will finish their event at the Pennsylvania Dutch Classic at Maple Grove Raceway, Oct. 13-16.


Saturday

RISING SUN, Md. - NHRA Northeast division racers converged on Cecil County Dragway today for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northeast Shootout.  The event is the fifth of six events that run through the middle of August where competitors will earn points toward both national and divisional championships.

Racers in ten different classes, including the series' premier Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars, made qualifying and time trial runs today which will set the fields for the alcohol classes that will run all three rounds of eliminations on Saturday.  The remaining classes will run final qualifying and time trials on Saturday along with round one of eliminations.  Saturday's racing begins at 9:30 a.m.  The division's MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster Series and Speed Shop at Atco Top Sportsman Series qualify at noon and 4 p.m. followed by round one at 6 p.m.  Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars run eliminations rounds at 3, 5, and 7 p.m.

RISING SUN, Md. - The fifth of six events in the NHRA Northeast division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series arrives to Cecil County Dragway August 19-21, 2011. This is also 1 of 42 events scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $560,000.  

Gates at Cecil County Dragway open at 8 a.m. each day.  Qualifying and time trials begin Friday at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster by Select Performance and Speed Shop at Atco Top Sportsman by Select Performance will have qualifying runs at 4 p.m. on Friday and at noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday followed by round 1 at 6 p.m.  Comp Eliminator will qualify twice on Friday, at 2 and 6 p.m., and run all elimination rounds on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will have two qualifying sessions, at 4 and 7 p.m. on Friday and run all three rounds of eliminations on Saturday, at 3, 5 and 7 p.m.  Eliminations will continue Sunday at 9:30 a.m.  Top Dragster and Top Sportsman round 2 is set for 11 a.m. on Sunday.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
 NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2011 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions.  Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 purse from Jegs High Performance.  The 2011 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster.  The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2011 Jegs Allstars during the United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals in June, 2011.  Points are based on in-division races only. 

The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions.  Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece.  Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants.  Any 2011 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.
