TOPEKA, Kan. (August 30, 2009) – The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series wrapped up this weekend at Heartland Park Topeka.  Racers completed the long two day event, which was the fifth of six events on the division calendar. The event featured drivers in 11 categories vying for crucial points leading to divisional and national championships.  Winning the Heartland Championships presented by Aeromotive were Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Brandon Lewis of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Roger Bateman, Winnipeg, Man., in the Top Alcohol Funny Car class.

Lewis made his way out of the No.2 qualifying position to pick up the win with his 5.269 second, 273.00 mph pass.  He made his first trip to the winner's circle this season as Monroe Guest of Mannford, Okla., broke in the final.

In Top Alcohol Funny Car action, Roger Bateman picked up his third consecutive win of the season. Lance Van Hauen out of Reinbeck, Iowa, was a no show in the final which gave the win light to Bateman.    

Other top honors were awarded to Bruno Massel, Woodbridge, Ill., who picked up his fourth divisional victory in Comp Eliminator; Steve Wann of Modesto, Calif.,  claimed the Super Stock trophy; and Brad Haugaard, North Branch, Minn., won in Stock Eliminator.  Super Comp honors went to Duane Hawkes from Wichita, Kan.; Tommy Phillips, Forney, Texas, won in Super Gas; and Charlie Owens out of White Oak, Texas, grabbed the Super Street title.

West Central Division Top Dragster Series honors went to Jerry Holt, Collinsville, Okla.; Tom Donovan of Olathe, Kan., won the Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series; and the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson title went to Alex Barmettler, Maplewood, Minn.

The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, West Central division heads to Tri-State Raceway September 11-13 to complete the season.

TOPEKA, Kan. (August 28, 2009) – The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series takes over Heartland Park Topeka for the annual Heartland Championships presented by Aeromotive. The two day event is the fifth of six on the division calendar and will feature drivers in eleven categories vying for divisional and national championships.  Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Brandon Lewis, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Roger Bateman of Winnipeg, Man., of the Top Alcohol Funny Car class, both received top qualifying honors going into Saturday's eliminations. 

Lewis grabbed the top spot by posting a 5.320-second, 260.71-mph pass after two qualifying sessions.  The NHRA South Central division racer is searching for his first win of the season, yet is within striking distance of the points lead.  Monroe Guest, Mannford, Okla., and Chase Copeland of Walters, Okla., sit two and three respectively.

The Top Alcohol Funny Car class is once again being led by Bateman, who has picked up every No.1 qualifier in the division this season.  His 5.647 second, 254.09 mph lap was enough to keep him ahead of the pack and in stride to pick up his third home division win of the season.

Other top qualifying times were ran by Bruno Massel of Woodbridge, Ill., in Comp Eliminator; Vic Penrod, Walters, Okla.,  in Super Stock; and Bob Shaw out of Sedalia, Mo., in Stock Eliminator. The division's Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series No.1 qualifier was Keith Haney of Broken Arrow, Okla.; Clif Bakx, Grunthal, Manit., lead the West Central Division Top Dragster Series class with his 6.327 second, 212.63 mph pass; and scoring a 0.001-second reaction time to lead NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson was Stan Johnson from Sioux Falls, S.D.

Gates open Saturday morning at 7 a.m. and final qualifying and time trials are scheduled from 7:45 a.m. to noon.  Comp Eliminator, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman qualify starting at 10:30 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualifying is at 11:30 a.m.  Eliminations for all classes start at noon.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car run first round at 6 p.m.

TOPEKA, Kan. – Heartland Park Topeka will host the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Heartland Championships presented by Aeromotive for two days, August 28 and 29.  The race is the fifth of six in NHRA West Central division competition and will feature racers in eight categories, including 250 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, vying for points leading to divisional and national titles.  The division's Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series, West Central Division Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Heartland Park Topeka open at 7 a.m. both days.  Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 9 a.m. and continue Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.  Racers in Comp Eliminator, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will have two qualifying runs on Friday, starting at 4 and 6 p.m., and one on Saturday, starting at 10:30 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car competitors will have two qualifying passes on Friday, at 5 and 7:30 p.m., and one on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.  Eliminations for all classes start Saturday at noon.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Heartland Championships presented by Aeromotive are $15 Friday and $15 Saturday.  A two-day pass is $25.  Children 12 and under are $5 each day.

BONUS PROGRAMS:  NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2009 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions.  Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

 AEROMOTIVE LOW QUALIFIER BONUS: A $3,000 bonus fund paid to the low qualifiers in Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and Stock Eliminator at each of the division's six races. The best qualifying driver in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock will each get $200 per event, while the best qualifier in Stock Eliminator will get $100 per race.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance.  The 2010 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster.  The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2010 Jegs Allstars.  Points are based on in-division races only. 

The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions.  Winners in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will each earn $5,000.  Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece.  Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a "double up" bonus to Jegs Allstars participants.  Any 2010 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

JERRY HAAS RACE CARS TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors

in the West Central division's Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $2,750 champions' purse posted by Jerry Haas Race Cars will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

West Central Division Top Dragster Series: The West Central Division Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the West Central division's Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $3,500 champions' purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships.  The $14,000 champions' purse posted by Harley Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
